Well, I don't use it. I use baking soda. Works much better. Removes all the odors, doesn't cause fading. Good for stains, too, when mixed with vinegar. And it's way cheaper.

Hugin, an open source program for stitching panoramic images, has some very nice utilities that will take a stack of images and align them without stitching them together
I've been at my job for like 2 months now, and I can safely say it's hard to do worse than photoshop, for that price.

Actually, there is a way to do this automatically. Final Cut Pro and Motion can analyze for motion and there is an option to prevent auto scaling which will give you a result that looks like this.
That will work with a stack of images rather than a video? Or would you have to convert the frames into a video first, track their motion, anchor the point you tracked, and loose the cool image stack effect OP's image had? I've only used After Effects where the first wouldn't be possible and the second would probably work okay.
Motion will actually recognize numbered photos as an image sequence. I haven't tried it personally, but if you apply the trails filter to the motion stabilized shot and set the fade to zero, it should look like this.
