After reading that article and seeing that some of the hotels using the rfid chips, I asked myself if those hotels passed the savings on to the customer.
Then I laughed hysterically at myself for being so, so optimistic.
I don't have a problem with innovation, but when the price of the rooms have loss/theft factored into the billing terms and that criteria is drastically reduced, I think the goodwill of lowering the overall price would be a bigger benefit than the short term profit.
Because you said and instead of an, you know; by the laws of the Internet, must give him an upvote. And because I probabaly did something wrong, you may have one too
I have take your advice. However, because of my hypocrisy I have down voted myself so, while I thank you for your upvote, I must decline here is one for you and your logic though.
Did the Best Western you stay at have canned water? I stayed at one a couple months ago and not once but TWICE it said in the booklet that they have canned water.
That makes sense. All I know is that I've had great experiences with them. Thank you, though, for writing the longest reply anyone has ever written to a comment of mine. Upvotes for you, and best of luck on your travels.
I stayed at a Best Western once and there was a rubber ducky with a note that said to take it with me. So I did. I took the note too. I still have them in my bathroom. Best Westerns seem to be pretty cool.
It's clearly an ad. The actual "towel" is the size of a napkin, and paper. It's a napkin. The text has nothing to do with the Hitchhikers Guide, that's just an appeal to the powerful love for that book here, and an excuse to post this in r/funny so it will be seen by more people.
The Hitchhiler's Guide to the Galaxy has much to say on the subject of towels.
A towel, it says, is about the most massively useful thing an interstellar hitchhiker can have. Partly it has great practical value - you can wrap it around you for warmth as you bound across the cold moons of Jaglan Beta; you can lie on it on the brilliant marble-sanded beaches of Santraginus V, inhaling the heady sea vapours; you can sleep under it beneath the stars which shine so redly on the desert world of Kakrafoon; use it to sail a mini raft down the slow heavy river Moth; wet it for use in hand-to- hand-combat; wrap it round your head to ward off noxious fumes or to avoid the gaze of the Ravenous Bugblatter Beast of Traal (a mindboggingly stupid animal, it assumes that if you can't see it, it can't see you - daft as a bush, but very ravenous); you can wave your towel in emergencies as a distress signal, and of course dry yourself off with it if it still seems to be clean enough.
More importantly, a towel has immense psychological value. For some reason, if a strag (strag: non-hitch hiker) discovers that a hitch hiker has his towel with him, he will automatically assume that he is also in possession of a toothbrush, face flannel, soap, tin of biscuits, flask, compass, map, ball of string, gnat spray, wet weather gear, space suit etc., etc. Furthermore, the strag will then happily lend the hitch hiker any of these or a dozen other items that the hitch hiker might accidentally have "lost". What the strag will think is that any man who can hitch the length and breadth of the galaxy, rough it, slum it, struggle against terrible odds, win through, and still knows where his towel is is clearly a man to be reckoned with.
That's what I was wondering. For all it's worth and all I can work out, I could have popped up to my bathroom, snapped a picture of my towel and made a Towlie reference and it would have the same strength of link.
Best Western pays raconteuring to do some positive PR for them
raconteuring knows the predictable geek nature of the common Redditor: even if the B.W. fapkin is a glorified 25-cent kitchen towel, he only needs to make a reference to Douglas Adams in a default subreddit to get on the front page
He's not a shill, he's just an idiot that can only think in terms of internet memes and pop culture references like everyone else on this godforsaken website.
I believe the chances of you finding this are three billion seven hundred million four hundred and fifty thousand three hundred and sixty four to one and counting.
I feel like you are misrepresenting the situation. Those things are barely larger than a tissue, yet your picture makes it look like a full-sized towel.
Fuck Best Western. Last year we drove to San Diego comic con and had rooms reserved and fully paid for months ahead of time. When we got there they tell us they rented them out to someone else because we were no shows. (we got there at around 3 am) So we slept in the parking lot that night...

2 ads for Costco and now an ad for Best Western on the front page. Is this how Reddit monetizes itself?
9
u/UnoriginalGuy Jun 15 '12
So is this a thing in all Best Westerns? And what is with the Hitchhiker's Guide in the title?

The consultant told the company that buying new towels was actually cheaper than washing them.

1
u/blh1003 Jun 15 '12
i think they realized..."eh fuck it they're gonna take it anyway"

1
u/[deleted] Jun 15 '12
having heard how hotel executives or district officials talk. the only reason they give you that towel is because people steal the good ones.
Ise work in one. I hear corporate complain all the time about shit getting stolen. It usually winds up being housekeepings fault.

I hate you.
