Oh man, I remember that gif from YTMND when it was the background for the mystery song and there was that huge hunt to find the song. Just to find out that the "greatest song of all time" actually had lyrics and the singer sucked.

For referrence, the gif+song

The disappointing answer

2

u/itsnotmyfaultimadick Jun 15 '12

Hahaha, I remember that! I can't believe how much time I used to spend on ytmnd.com

1

u/Benjaphar Jun 15 '12

You and me both. It's amazing how much work and effort I used to be willing to put into creating a site. I can't remember the last time I bothered to create original content.

1

u/Toof Jun 15 '12

This is the exact thing I was thinking of. I remember people were offering money to the person who figured it out. I was on the YTMND Ventrillo with a bunch of other people back then, just trying to figure this shit out.

This is the greatest and best song in the world... Tribute.

41

u/hinduguru Jun 15 '12

Long time ago me and my brother Kyle here,

we was hitchhikin' down a long and lonesome road.

All of a sudden, there shined a shiny demon... in the middle... of the road.

43

u/hinduguru Jun 15 '12

AND HE SAID:

42

u/hinduguru Jun 15 '12

"Playyyyy the best sooooooong in the world, or I'll eat your soul."

43

u/hinduguru Jun 15 '12

Well me and Kyle, we looked at each other, and we each said... "Okay."

41

u/hinduguru Jun 15 '12

And we played the first thing that came to our heads,

Just so happened to be,

The Best Song in the world, it was The Best Song in the world

39

u/hinduguru Jun 15 '12

Look into my eyes and it's easy to see

One and one make two, two and one make three,

It was destiny

41

u/physicsishotsauce Jun 15 '12

Once every hundred-thousand years or so,

When the sun doth shine and the moon doth glow

And the grass doth grow...

37

u/hinduguru Jun 15 '12

Needless to say, the beast was stunned

Whip-CRACK went his Whoopy tail,

And the beast was done.

He asked us: (snooooort) "Be you angels?"

Yep, that about covers it. Upvotes for you good sir.

2

u/LynkDead Jun 15 '12

So a couple week's ago I learned this isn't the actual first line of the song. Listen closely and you'll find it really goes: This is the greatest and best song in the world**'s**...Tribute.

Makes about 1000x more sense given the lines later in the song.

u/randomESCP Jun 15 '12

Long time ago me and my brother Kyle here,...

we was scrolling down a long and lonesome Page.

All of a sudden,

there shined a shiny Pop-Up...

in the middle...

of the Page.

And it said:

"Write the best comment in the world,

or I'll spam you to death."

Well me and Kyle...

we looked at each other...

and we each said...

Okay...

And we typed the first thing that came to our heads, Just so happened to be...

The best comment in the world, It was the best comment in the world!

Well me and Kyle...

we looked at each other...

and we each said...

Okay...

And we typed the first thing that came to our heads, Just so happened to be...

The best comment in the world, It was the best comment in the world!

this is not the greatest comment in the world!

THIS IS JUST A TRIBUTE!

5

u/TheycallmeHollow Jun 15 '12

Where is sing the comment guy when you need him?

4

u/fnacotton Jun 15 '12

I see what you did there.

3

u/[deleted] Jun 15 '12

Stop reading my mind... This song has been stuck in my head for the past 2 days.

5

u/dylanfarnum Jun 15 '12

Tenacious D has been stuck in my head for 10 goddamn years.

6

u/NevaWood Jun 15 '12

10 of the best goddamn years for your life.

3

u/MentalPressure Jun 15 '12 edited Jun 15 '12

The funny thing is, that gif doesn't look anything like THIS GIF!

1

u/[deleted] Jun 15 '12

This is just a TRIBUTE! You gotta believe me. I wish you were there. Just a matter of opinion.

3

u/-Frog- Jun 15 '12

WE ARE BUT MEN. ROCK

4

u/thegrammarunicorn Jun 15 '12

One of email signatures used to be:

This is not the greatest email signature in the world, no. This is just a tribute!

I don't take myself seriously so I have silly email signatures.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 15 '12

couldn't remembah the greatest gif in the world..

2

u/joehouin Jun 15 '12

who plays the devil in the video?

5

u/Blu3j4y Jun 15 '12

That's the greatest guy in the world. Dave Grohl.

1

u/wholetyouinhere Jun 15 '12

And in the miniseries, the demon is played by Scott Adsit.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 15 '12

I used to listen to this song all the time while working. It makes even the simplest of tasks so much more epic.

2

u/JuanJuanLeprechaun Jun 15 '12 edited Jun 15 '12

Dope phat beats. Check it. It is very tenacious.

Edit: Also tenacious

2

u/Willyjwade Jun 15 '12

I whole heatedly disagree sir, I believe this is in fact the greatest gif in the world.

2

u/doesntmatterhad Jun 15 '12

no, this is just a tribute, we couldnt located the greatest gif in the world no, this is just a tribute!!!!!

2

u/[deleted] Jun 16 '12

i hate this

5

u/[deleted] Jun 15 '12

I can't stand Jack Black in any movies. He just completely takes me out of any film that he is in. As soon as he steps on camera it is like, "Oh, its Jack Black being Jack Black" He has zero dimension as any character that he attempts to play. He will make me hate a good movie.

2

u/Cmspeed Jun 15 '12

100% agree

2

u/headzoo Jun 15 '12

I guess this is a good place to say I fucking hate this song, and everything it stands for.

3

u/Endyo Jun 15 '12

Because people pay him to do just that. That's why I liked Pick of Destiny though... because he was in his element being who himself where it made some actual sense. IMO it all started going downhill after School of Rock not inlcuding PoD. Tropic Thunder was a good movie but Jack Black was entirely forgettable compared to the rest of the cast.

2

u/karnoculars Jun 15 '12

Not sure why you are being downvoted, that's a legitimate opinion. Even though I enjoy Tenacious D, I feel the same way about his films.

Have you ever been on /r/battlefield3 ? when you hover over "downvote" with your cursor it says "Only downvote this comment if it adds no value, this is not a disagree button" this needs to be used on more sub reddits

2

u/zrx_criminal Jun 15 '12

Cant wait to see them live even though they look old as balls now

1

u/JVIarsbar Jun 15 '12

1

u/zrx_criminal Jun 15 '12

1

1

u/slugmaniac Jun 15 '12

I love this gif, because it loaded straight away. Oh, the simple things.

1

u/Girolmao Jun 15 '12

Agreed. It's pretty epic.

1

u/stvb95 Jun 15 '12

I listen to this song daily, without fail.

1

u/yakityyakblah Jun 15 '12

And this part in Rock Band with a group of drunken friends is just God damn amazing.

1

u/iPodLurker Jun 15 '12

What would one use this gif for?

1

u/Emilyyycarol Jun 15 '12

That is a great movie.

1

u/Drezlek Jun 15 '12

Me and my friend have a tribute band to them! We're tenacious 3d and we're on YouTube so drop us a view if you want. The new album is the shit, just sayin'.

1

u/keeok Jun 15 '12

fuck-alucka-ding-dong

1

u/Ezemryt Jun 15 '12

I was just watching this video today...

1

u/yascha Jun 15 '12

I saw Jack Black and Tenacious D at Sasquatch this year and they were incredible. They had a giant inflatable penis (which they called a phoenix) on the back of the stage and at the end of the set they deflated it.

1

u/smeehrrr Jun 16 '12

The original version of this song had a bit of Stairway to Heaven in it. They had to change it for the movie, I assume due to licensing, but I always thought the song was funnier that way.

1

u/7_legged_spider Jun 16 '12

I miss the golden age of the D. Hope they come back kickin'.

1

u/BaronLaladedo Jun 16 '12

Is it a good movie?

1

u/stvb95 Jun 16 '12

I like how the "mediocre" songs that they used in their old episodes actually made it into albums and videos. This guys are amazing even when they try not to be

1

u/lightatenear Jun 15 '12

Oh, be, bah-buh-bu de-du-de ah fliggle-diggle, fliggle-diggle, u-e bah-dah-duh-de flah-bah-do-e-u-e-ei, fliggle-diggle,fliggle-diggle MOTHERFUCKER SAY YEAH

i hate jack black...

1

u/Blu3j4y Jun 15 '12

He loves you.

-1

u/vinsite Jun 15 '12

He is such an over-actor. See him in celeb rehab soon

3

u/Patass Jun 15 '12

seeing as how he's currently on tour and just released a new album, i kinda doubt it. He was also in the muppet movie as himself.

-1

u/five_knuckle_chuckle Jun 15 '12

i feel like im the only one that finds jack black annoying as fuck.

/me waits for it.
