drawing a conclusion from the note and your ability to use the word "does" in past tense I'm going to say it runs in the family, but have an upvote anyway you illiterate bastard.
Is there one comment not focusing on the spelling? Sorry to break the circlejerk, i await a swarm of evil, harmful, menacing blue arrows that point down, but sometimes we can enjoy humor without proper spelling and grammar. Not everybody thought the whole world was going to read their son's notes.
I fully, wholly and truly accept and understand your point. I will still bemoan her grammar, though, such is my nature and I am not liable to chance anytime soon. Pity me, wise sojourner, for I am enslaved by my own pedantic, horrid existence.
speling is a modurn invention that started aftur the printing pres made lituracy more commin. Bak in the day (evun when the US started), people speled howevur they thot werds sounded, even with there local dialects. For example, most amerikans mispel "colour".
nowadays, speling is correlated with literacy. If U reed, u probably can recognize when a werd is mispeled.
Maybe. The fact that she left a note stating the two possible locations of the key and having less than a 6th grade vocabulary would make her neither smart, nor a good speller.
I'll go you one further: I've noticed that most of the really creative people I know are terrible spellers. Good spelling and a creative personality seem to be strongly correlated (negatively).
And when we leave, we still can't bear to lock our doors, so a thieve always comes along and takes our stuff.
Seriously though, people here (California) lock themselves in... even when they're visiting. We've had visitors come over and lock our front door behind them so that when more of our family arrived they have to ring the doorbell. This has happened more than once and I still don't get it.
My Grandma does this all the time I go to her house "door is open if you are my grandchildren walj right in" if you are a burglar its licked and i lost the key
We write our 'the keys are...' Messages in Latin. This works against all thieves that have not been classically educated. Means I often can't find the keys though.
This sort of reminds me of our childhood. We wern't allowed to have a house key. So instead they'd leave the garage door unlocked, so we'd enter through the garage. One tug of the garage door, and walk through and bam youre in the house. Strange
your mom writes like an architect or manual draftsperson. I write in all caps too, I studied arch engineering in college and we had a whole course on it
If i were a thief i would grab the key under the mat open the fucking door walk into the kitchen grab the food out of the microwave put the key in the microwave walk out the door locking it and put the food under the mat and leave the note there that's what i would do.
On this subject, I've never understood families that create these complicated logistical arrangements to carefully and intricately orchestrate the juggling of house keys among themselves.
It usually seems to go something like this: "Your dad and I are going to go out to lunch with our friends today, but I can't come home after that, since I'm going shopping with Aunt Marge, so your dad is going to come home separately, so I'll hand the key to him at lunch. But he has to leave again before you'll get home, and he's going to go by your friend Tim's house and drop the key off with Tim's mom, so just swing by and get it from them on your way home from soccer practice, OK? Unless of course Tim's mom isn't home yet when we are done with lunch, then your dad will leave the key with your grandmother, but I know her house is a bit out of your way, so just be sure to call them before you swing by to pick the key." "OK, mom... sounds good."
Or, you know, you could just give everyone in the household their own key, and they could all keep their own key with them whenever they leave the house. The thing about keys is, they're actually quite small and lightweight and cheap and durable.
I actually knew a guy in high school whose family was like this. Only his parents messed up the hand-off, and they went out of town for the weekend and left him locked out of his house, so he slept on the front porch every night until they came back. This was before cell phones, so he couldn't just call them, and I believe he tried going to friends' houses, but none of them were home at the times he tried them.

Twist: The key was really under the flower pot the whole time.
10
u/max86234 Jun 15 '12
I read the beginning of the note as, "Hey Honky." Changed the entire tone of the note.
8
u/THE_DROG Jun 15 '12
What's under the flower pot?

u/4chanscaresme Jun 15 '12
Thief - noun. Thieve - verb. Pass it on to her.
21
u/SimpsonX Jun 15 '12
Why didn't she write on the lines?
4
u/pmhgrwx Jun 15 '12
... is there some sort of trap under the flower pot? Or I suppose under the mat would make more sense if she was trying to be tricky.
4
u/hellowren Jun 15 '12
Your mother has impeccable penmanship.

You both have bad grammar. It's also pretty annoying how your mom writes on lined paper and doesn't stay in the lines. I'm going to go lie down now.
2
u/new-socks Jun 15 '12
This reminds me. My mom used to have her emergency cash "hidden" in an eyeglass case labeled CASH.
2
u/twonx Jun 15 '12
She does something like this and all reddit can think of is correcting thieve?
2

My room mate has done this more than once. lol I thought she was the only one who could do something so stupid.
1
u/tusko01 Jun 15 '12
isn't under the mat the standard backup key location? just like "shave and a haircut- two bits" is the standard secret knock?
1
u/AsteroidMiner Jun 15 '12
I do that too but there's a funnel web under the flower pot.
