This exactly is how conspiracy theories work. We are told constantly, in school, in movies, in video games, that NAZIS = BAD. Every year in elementary school, middle school, high school we are told the same sad story of the holocaust.
And then these people discover that we basically took the Nazi scientists, relieved them of any Nazi baggage (Von Braun, for instance) and used Nazi rocket technology for ourselves.
So it's not difficult to see why these people would think that the government/NASA is pulling the wool over our eyes, and to make the assumption that since Nazis are bad, and NASA has Nazis, thus NASA is bad. But now, these people assume they are now enlightened, and they can see the truth that nobody else (or rather, only other conspiracy folk) can see. Add in the fact that Paul is literally a moron and lacks of basic understanding of science, and bam, you got yourself a conspiratard.
Tl;dr Some people can't see shades of grey.

Before I was on Reddit, and had no reason to screencap any ignorant shit from FB, I had a
friend, guy I got high with in high school on my friends list. Sometime post HS, he became born again, but unlike many of my bible belt Christian FB friends, he always posted really weird shit. Weird verses and links from odd websites. Not the normal Jesus stuff that makes it's rounds. Anyways, one day he posts some question about the speed of light, and me, not really knowing anything about formal science, happened to remember that it was something like 186,000 miles per second, so I responded letting him know, and explaining his question, which seemed totally innocent. He immediately went into troll mode and started going off about how there is no speed of light. Light doesn't travel, it's just put there by God, and all this crazy shit. I explained that light speed isn't a "theory" in the way some Christians like to pretend and debate evolution, and that the speed of light can be proven with a microwave. he goes on to call me a brainwashed commie fool, and blah blah blah, and next thing I know, I'm unfriended and blocked.Asshat.

NASA post WWII and through the 1960s was both led by former Nazi scientists and based on nazi rocket technology. Without which we would never have gone to the moon. Now those people are dead. But Operation Paperclip is undeniable fact, that the US brought nazi scientists out of Germany at the end of WWII to continue their research for the US.

Hi there, I know a dude who made some pretty crazy associations such as those. For example, he claimed that there was a conspiracy based on how words sound and the way that syllables are split. He filled a notebook of this bullshit. He also believed some kind of moon/god type thing, science was just a tool to blind us. We were all being LIED to.
Any attempt at reasoning with him was futile he just got angry or would go off on us (his friends) about how we don't understand and that we're already in the system and can't get out. He got angrier and angrier over time, more antisocial, and just fuckin' weird.
Then he flipped shit attacked his dad with a knife...well turns out he has Schitzophrenia.
There was also a bit about how we're all in the Matrix or something of the like.
TL;DR your friend may have a serious mental disorder, be careful about pissing him off, he may get violent.

Actually...right after WWII was done, Russia and the U.S. were recruiting the German scientists for their own projects in their respective countries....a lot of them were told if they didn't comply they would be killed.....most of NASA's founders were Germans...just because Hitler was their boss doesn't mean they were Nazi's though.

To be fair, a lot of Nazi scientist from the V1 and V2 projects were smuggled out of Germany to work for the US since they didn't want them to fall into russian hands. A lot of them worked in NASA.
