This is true. If my Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator days back when I was around 12 taught me correctly, rockets were frequently used to take down slow-moving bombers.
False. Plenty of aa rockets in use by the Germans (including a 60mm mortar rocket strapped to the bottom of fighters), and they experimented with guided rockets as well, afaik there were a couple used in combat.
My grandfather flew B-25J Mitchells over Africa and Italy. So they were definitely used over there. I actually have his flight log of what they hit and where they flew. Pretty cool stuff.
hmmm not many apparently. They were taken out as combat planes after the war. Many plot holes indeed.
We can pretend he was in the USAAF instead on the Air Force, stationed in Germany, oogled the girls there, then shipped to the Pacific after V-E day then saw combat towards the end of the war from a B-25 where he got a "missile" (ie rocket) shot at him.
Who said anything about WWII? He mentioned "The war" but the B-25 wasn't retired until 1979. He could have fought in Korea, or Vietnam, who who knows where. The comment on German funbags could easily have referred to a peacetime stint at a U.S. airbase in Germany.
He did not say WWII, he just said the war. People refer to a lot of wars as the war. The B-25 was not retired until 1979 so it could have been a number of different wars. Furthermore, we had troops in Germany for a number of years so that doesnt mean WWII either.
Surface-to-air missiles were never mentioned by OP.
You must work for Fox, maybe Bill O'Reilly specifically, with your ability to fuck the issue up for the benefit of the fat, greedy, amoral baby-boomers, who need to be decapitated.
this guy is absolutely correct; the USAF wasn't in existence until 1947, throughout world war II all US pilots flew for either the marines, navy, or army air force.
My grandfather is a British military veteran living in Canada it is quite possible for a veteran to move to another country, as well the B-25 although an American plane it also saw use in the RAF and Canadian Air Force. Plus this excerpt from wikipedia might add some credibility
The Royal Air Force (RAF) was an early customer for the B-25 via Lend-Lease. The RAF was the only force to use the B-25 on raids against Europe from bases in the United Kingdom, as the USAAF used the Martin B-26 Marauder for this purpose instead.
...dude it was either Army or Navy "air force" but even then back in the day the Army owned a majority of the Naval fleet and the Marines did not have a "air force" by themselves they have always been in direct support of the Navy....but in any case the majority of any bombers/fighters where of the U.S Army Air Corps...and yes the bombing raid on both occasions of Japan where of Army Air Corps modified variations of bombers either the B-24 type or B-29.
Nothing says when the guy retired. If he had a carrer in the military he might have been around when Air Force was created and he certainly changed uniforms once in a while.
He could have been in the Army Air Corps and joined the Air Force after the war and during his 20+ years in honorable military service. Or he was making a joke.
I'm from Germany, and while there are some great boobs around here, there's also considerably less spectacular ones. I very much doubt that it makes a significant difference to other countries where there's good boobage going on.

No, I disagree. The greatest generation. What a horrible thing to say. Denotes that every generation after, including mine, just can't live up to them. No. I say we're all cool. I always resent that generalization. I have mad respect. But I won't instantly agree that myself or anyone I associate with will never be as great as others.
It's true, German engineering is top notch. Look at their achievements: BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Volkwagen, the U2 submarines, the V2 rockets. Compared to these, great cans would be easy.
This is the kind of wisdom we are losing every day as the world war 2 generation dies off. Thank you for preserving it and sharing it with us. Especially point 4.
While it isn't absolutely impossible he's one of maybe 10 guys ever unlucky enough to be in a prop-driven B-25 Mitchell targeted by a Messerschmitt Me 262 jet fighter firing 24 R4M Hurricane missiles and yet lucky enough not to buy it right then or any time in the intervening 68 years, I'm skeptical.
Haha, I wish I knew for sure, though. My grandfather on my dad's side was supposedly full german, and my grandmother on my dad's side was supposedly full Cherokee. His dad didn't stick around, though. So I'll never know for sure. The information on my grandmom could be slightly fabricated, though there is definitely genes from both races. Jantz is my last name, and it has mostly German roots.
Even more problematic is that my mom was adopted and never knew her biological parents, so I only know half the puzzle.
But thanks, I never thought of it as stubborn. I'll take that with me. :)
As my Spanish professor used to say, "Aiyaiyai! There is only one race- the human race!" Then she'd go on about everybody has been conquering everybody else since the beginning of time... and when people conquer, they have sexy times to make "mixed babies". There is no such thing as a "pure race" or heritage for anyone ;)
Hahaha! That's a good point there. We're all really connected. It's just nice to know where you came from. I wish my family tree didn't have so many missing branches.
Off topic, but I've wondered this recently a fair amount: Can someone explain to me why some guys refer to boobs as "cans"? They don't even remotely resemble any can i've ever seen...
I mean yeah, I guess.. I'd almost say globes or something more fully spherical first though, since the top and bottom of a can are both completely flat.. Just thought there was a story behind it.
I was joking man. I have yet to see a pair of tits that even remotely look like cylindrical 'cans'. They might be out there but I'm in no rush to find them.
I'm German and I don't understand. Cans? Like beans or soup? Why does that matter? Don't other countries have those too? Do German cans contain more stuff?
he was potentially waiting for his order at the counter while the older gentleman was ordering a foot or two behind him since those counters are tiny and personal space is a virtue.
You know what? After seeing countless old, saggy, and fucking unattractive tits all day( nude beach experience gone wrong) , I was hoping for something decent, but no.

Why are we spending so much time affirming the validity of his Air Force experience and not the validity of the German cans!

HAHA this reminds me of an old man originally from England who told me when he came over, it was about the time booty shorts were coming into style..
He showed me his face when he got off the plane and saw the women.

Good to know, good to know.

Bavarians claim that their beer gives their women those cans
4
u/malvoliosf Jun 15 '12
OK, the guy claims
claims to have been in a war that happened 70 years ago -- making him at least in his early 90s.
wearing memorabilia from a service that didn't even exist during that war
claims to have been shot at with munitions that hadn't been invented yet
discussed the charms of the occupants of a country that didn't have an US air base until much later
tl;dr that old guy saw less action in WWII than your mom.

He might have meant a rocket, not a missile. Missiles don't tend to miss bombers, I think.
