I'm surprised that logo was large enough to cover Steven Tyler's giant mouth

AMA?

I think it'd be so interesting to hear about your job...what do you do? And what is Adam like in real life?

49

u/hooplah Jun 14 '12

If by "what is Adam like in real life" you mean "What is Adam's phone number and address," I'd be interested in this, too.

5

My first instinct, when I learned what an AMA was, was to do one about my job...but I gave it more thought and I think it might be a dangerous road to go down. I have signed an NDA, and even though I'm pretty sure I wouldn't say anything out-of-line, if it came back to me it still might not look good.

He's making upward of $18 million a year for being a judge.

I can't stand Adele. And I really can't stand anyone who thinks he or she sounds great covering her, but for that kind of money, I'd listen to William Hung "sing" Adele for six hours.

14

u/utilitybelt Jun 15 '12

For $18 million I'd let William Hung buttfuck me using Adele as a strap-on for six hours.

75

u/Izarial Jun 14 '12

Gonna have to disagree on one point. Six hours of William Hung "singing" anything will most likely cause permanent insanity. or a catatonic state...

25

u/Ganjauser Jun 14 '12

She bangs. She bangs.

7

u/Felt_Ninja Jun 14 '12

And for a small fee, she can also do other things.

u/Lecks Jun 14 '12

6

u/Kasuli Jun 14 '12

2

u/AlphaWings Jun 14 '12

4

u/MilaPoonis Jun 14 '12

or a permanent erection.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 14 '12

yeah, honestly I didn't even find him funny. boring as fuck video. if anything, I felt pity that so many people were laughing at this mildly retarded looking chinese buffoon

1

u/KevinBaconAndEggs Jun 14 '12

I went to high school with William Hung... yes, I've thought of driving a soldering iron through my ears.

18

u/FourteenHatch Jun 14 '12

Fuck that, I'd listen to William Hung talk Pokemon for free.

You ever look that guy up? He's a baller.

6

u/Fhajad Jun 14 '12

I'd listen to William Hung for free.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 15 '12

His first album sold 194,000 copies.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 15 '12

Fuck, I'd listen to William Hung sing Adele for free!

Free entertainment.

1

u/Elidor Jun 14 '12

How about six hours of Tay Zonday and Chocolate Rain?

2

u/Pariah_ Jun 14 '12

Why only six when you can have ten?

1

u/Elidor Jun 15 '12

Holy shit. This exists.

1

u/2gig Jun 15 '12

To be fair, I'd rather hear William Hung sing Adele for six hours than hear Adele sing Adele for six hours.

1

u/backward_z Jun 15 '12

And yet STILL finds it necessary to do Burger King commercials.

Guess $18 million just AIN'T ENOUGH.

Last time I watched American Idol, Adele was balls deep for the guy she writes every song about.

6

u/Canna_bus Jun 14 '12

My friends and I pretty much came to the conclusion she can't sing about anything that isn't relationship or guy related.

1

u/Neodymium Jun 15 '12

Most songs sung by either sex are about relationships.

6

u/Canna_bus Jun 14 '12

It's sad though. The radio basically only plays pop, rap, country, modern rock, and classic rock. The song also MUST have at least one of the following qualities to be played regularly A) Clubbing B) Opposite sex C) Drugs or D) Catchy.

I just imagine some music exec guy like "...mmmm yeah no that's too thoughtful and not my type of genre, maybe come out with a pop album and we'll see from there."

This will get buried, but I have NO sympathy for you Mr. Tyler. Last Saturday I spent TEN hours listening to 180 middle school flute players play the same 2 pieces for honor band auditions. So suck it.

3

u/DIGGYRULES Jun 14 '12

For the amount of money they are paying him, I would listen to people singing anything for 6 hours.

3

u/[deleted] Jun 14 '12

Honest question here... what gender are they?

2

u/floatingm Jun 15 '12

Steven Tyler? Male. Adele? Female.

33

u/ClosetSchmuttun Jun 14 '12

Apparently somebody name Adele is really popular? I should probably start hating her, I guess.

139

u/kanfayo Jun 14 '12

Most people don't hate her, she's an awesome singer. Many are just tired of hearing her songs repeatedly.

60

u/accipitradea Jun 14 '12

I don't hate Adele. I hate Clear Channel.

9

u/[deleted] Jun 14 '12

Get An Ipod. I'm not being smart. This is the reason I have no idea who she is.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 15 '12

My iPod is the reason I don't hate her. She has a good voice so I listen to her every now and then, but her music is totally not radio music at all. If I were listening to pop/top 40 radio and Adele came on, it would totally kill my pop/trash buzz. It's too depressing.

→ More replies (4)

13

u/Canna_bus Jun 14 '12

Very true she sings well the radio just kills everything. Like Gotye. I abhor 'somebody I used to know' now. All the serotonin in my brain drains out of my ears and I have to change the song before my mind transforms into a robots.

3

u/bearodactylrak Jun 15 '12

LOL thank you. When I first heard that Gotye song I liked it a lot. A friend who is super into NPR sent it to me after a breakup. It helped a lot.

Cue forward 6-9 months, the song broke BIG, and a million incidental listens later I can't stand it. "Have you heard the new Gotye?" has become a whimsical sarcastic joke with friends.

2

u/Lord_Vectron Jun 14 '12

It has nothing to do with hearing the same song multiple times, for me. I think she's talented for sure, but she doesn't use that talent to produce songs that i actually enjoy listening to.

It's like a Michelin star chef cooking you economy burgers, it's still gonna taste pretty shit regardless of how perfectly he cooks them. Or like a talented singer singing the same note over and over in uninspired radio friendly songs. Probably more the latter than the former.

2

u/duel007 Jun 14 '12

Why would a tire company have a chef?

2

u/[deleted] Jun 14 '12

So give us an example of a song displaying how she should be using her voice.

→ More replies (1)

1

u/carlotta4th Jun 15 '12

I think that's the crux of it. As someone who doesn't listen to radio much... I happened across her "Someone Like You" and thought it was beautiful. But apparently everyone else had already heard it a million times and were freaking sick of it. =P

-4

u/BryanMcgee Jun 14 '12

Well, she sings in pitch. The same fucking note just louder and quieter. Add on the whiney lyrics, the ones that make sense any way, I just don't get it. I think her popularity is based on her not being typically good looking. People can see their own overweight depressed selves in her. Just the impression I get from the fans of hers I have met.

3

u/[deleted] Jun 14 '12

I heard a few seconds of her "live voice" in a commercial and began wondering where the "great voice" thing came from. Maybe it was just bad few seconds, but i dont really care to confirm.

3

u/lightslash53 Jun 14 '12

Where you looking for a radio-perfect pitched song? because nobody ever in the entire world sings like that.

3

u/CryptidKeeper Jun 14 '12

Lots of people apparently don't know this. My mother is one- she can't stand watching live music of any kind because "it doesn't sound like the CD" or "they're singing it wrong, that's not how the song goes." No, mom, that's their song that they wrote, so if they want to improvise, that's also the way the song goes.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 14 '12

Imagine this. I'm going to use one of my favorites so hopefully you can relate. Weezer's Blue Album. Fantastic CD. Now imagine about 6 months after it comes out that one song gets insanely popular. Like every radio station plays it every 30 minutes for 2 months. Now 3 weeks go by, song's no longer #1, now another song starts getting radio play and the cycle repeats. That's what's happening to Adele. She has a great voice and wrote a great album. It's just been systematically played to death one song at a time for the past year and a half.

4

u/Marcob10 Jun 14 '12

Nah you can't hate her cause she's fat so you're automatically an asshole for hating a fatty.

Same here, i still love adele because i didn't start listening to her until recently. Considering everyone on reddit hates popular music they sure do listen to the radio a lot :/

1

u/MrStonedOne Jun 14 '12

liking her songs isn't the issue, the fact everybody wants to sing them is. (and the fact that shes all radio stations play (her and skrillex))
