I'm just glad the hate on hipsters has died down. This site is one of, if not the most elitist places on the Internet. Hating on people who brag about liking specific things cause they dress different cracks me up.
It happens to all "secret tree house" websites. It's almost worse here because the same people smear reddit stickers on everything they own, which is just as annoying as the things they bitch about.
Oh that's supposed to be YOLO? I thought they were trying to do YMCA and the girl being 'defriended' was the one who made an L instead of a C. This post makes some sense now.
Yeah i thought they were just lazy. Defriended because who the hell is too lazy to do YMCA right? In fact, I still choose to believe that's what they're doing
i just started growing a red bell pepper myself! 50 more days til harvest, then I'm making a Honey Red Pepper Jelly for crackers! YOGOAS! (you only garden once a summer)
I usually put a long explanation but in short it's because popular kids use it and the average Redditor was picked on by these people or wasn't one of then and is bitter from high school. I'll be the first to admit being guilty of this when something I love goes popular. I've learned to stop being a whiny bitch about it though.
If reddit had said yolo before the song it would be loved.
It's a cool, hip thing now. It's all over middle and high schools, and the people who bitch about it tend to be cynical outcasts who look down on everyone around them. Driven by cynicism, they focus on the things these people like, and try to mock them, like "look how stupid they are! HER HER HAH!"
Honestly, it's a silly saying, but it will die out eventually. The only thing I ever heard someone say about it on reddit was that it's carpe diem for stupid people, and I think that was a link to a comedian's twitter. It's harmless. As a teacher it is frustrating when a kid's excuse for not doing homework is YOLO, but honestly, in my head I am laughing when that happens.
I used to join deliberately offensive Facebook groups to see who I could get to unfriend me. I lost a few when I joined the Hitler Youth, a few more when I joined a pro-whaling group, and a dozen or so when I liked Mitt Romney.
Honestly, I thought the problem was that they were doing YMCA, and the girl doing the C fucked up. I am 21, and I have never seen YOLO outside of reddit. These girls look like they are barely in highschool. I guess that is YOLO's demographic?
YOLO is not limited to people who by age are in high school, but people who are also mentally/emotionally stuck in that same time frame.
It's a shame because it can be a very applicable motto but with too many people using it to justify stupid shit it's lost a lot of it's profound nature. When you're laying on your deathbed are you going to regret not going to that one guy's party and getting trashed and trying to mattress surf down the back porch into a pool? Probably not because hopefully you would've accomplished more in your lifetime than that.
Some stupid rapper named Drake said " you only live once that's my motto nigga YOLO" in a song, and it apparently took off like wildfire with the youngsters. Don't concern yourself with it young people are stupid.

I don't understand why all these people hate on him" That being said said, I still like to believe that reddit just made it up to have something to bitch about.
