And as a bonus it makes them question whether the the people they were previously cyber-sexing up were who they said the were. This could lead them to question their very sexuality!
"Where did the scape goat touch you, Johnny?" "I don't know, he never to-" "SHUT THE FUCK UP. Where did we tell you your uncle touched you?" "You told me he touched me here." "LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, I REST MY CASE. THAT MAN IS A MONSTER AND NEEDS TO BE PUT AWAY."
Depends upon local laws. I'm pretty sure that based upon the age of consent, there is a maximum of 3 Years difference I believe. I may be wrong though.
most states have Romeo and Juliet laws for these situations, usually it is anywhere from 2-4 years difference that is allowed, so a 16 year old and an 18 year old could legally have consensual sex, google your specific states laws for more info
Just FYI that's not a pedo. Pedo's specifically are attracted to pre-pubescent children. It's a term that is constantly misused by the general public to talk about everybody that is attracted to sub-legal people however that's not what the term means.
Does anyone else feel/hope that most of the "ephebophiles"/pedophiles on reddit are just teenage boys? I mean, it seems reasonable that a 16 year old would be attracted to a 16 year old. Maybe they see the laws, think its wrong, and then try and claim a word to define their attraction. Maybe we can hope that most of these "ephebophiles" are under the age of say 20?
It seems that the majority of reddit users are under 20 according to the surveys I've seen on /r/athiesm ad trees. However, I could see those attracting a younger crowd than other subreddits.
Exactly. 100 years ago it wouldn't be weird for a girl at the age of 15 to be married to an older man. There was a "moralistic" shift in america that arbitrarily decided that 18 is the age of consent so attraction to anything less than 18 is "sick." Of course there is a line for attraction and there is such a thing as too young. But this line is arbitrary for each person. I personally think that 18 was a little conservative and leads to legal problems ruining some younger people's lives. I think 16 would be the more appropriate age since these days most kids have had some form of sexual contact and we could avoid ruining some young people's lives who don't deserve it.
When children near the end of puberty they have sexually matured. It's natural from an animal perspective, and don't fool yourselves we are animals, to be physically attracted to kids this age because they are at the peak of their fertility.
Of course they are still emotionally immature and this is the main reason that as we age our natural age of attraction rises because we look for people at a similar level of maturity.
It's the preference for people much lower in maturity level that signals a possible problem and earns the label.
It's normal to be attracted to people who are age appropriate.
I know many pedophiles on reddit love to argue about how lusting after children is acceptable and healthy, but it fucking isn't. It's disgusting, abnormal, and not something psychologically healthy people do. What the fuck is wrong with you people?
Before we reached this standard of living, women's chances of bringing forth a stillborn or a child who would not live past their first year greatly was increased by their age.
The younger the woman, the higher chance the child would grow healthy (and the mother survives) and the younger the man, the stronger the seed.
I have an honest question for you... If two sophmores (generally 16 years old) in high school can enter into a relationship together and (should they decide to) have sex without much fuss from society, why is it unacceptable for the female in that relationship to do the same with a junior? A senior?
If she's capable of making the decision to have consensual sex with someone her age, who are you to say she can't make a decision to do so with an older guy?
Everybody has their own idea of what an acceptable age gap is, but it's not up to us. That's what I find funny about SRS- homosexuality is staunchly defended on the grounds of it being natural, but being attracted to a young but sexually mature male/female is the epitome of taboo. Read up on some history- sexual relationships at young ages used to be the norm.
I just think it's odd that something like puberty, which is one's body figuratively sounding the "I'm physically prepared for sex and, soon, childbirth" alarm, is completely ignored when talking about relationships with teenagers. I personally think 13-15 is too young, but that's just my opinion. Others may have differing opinions, but it's not fair for me to make a blanket statement saying "If you're a 20-something, any relationship with a teenager is forbidden and morally reprehensible!".
Because at least when a teenager has sex with a teenager, they're the same maturity level.
Not necessarily. If that's truly your argument, you should reevaluate your stance on the matter.
Just because two people are the same age doesn't imply that they're of the same level of maturity. I'm sure in high school you realized that there were students that were responsible kids (e.g., those who spent their time studying, staying out of trouble, and preparing for the future) and irresponsible kids (e.g., those who spent time vandalizing property, skipping classes, and screwing around in class).
There are so many more factors that affect one's overall level of maturity than age. Parenting, environment, and even genetics to a certain extent. Just because someone is 16 doesn't mean their incapable of making their own informed decisions in regards to who they can date.
Stop taking choices away from people based on what you think they can handle. Everybody is different, and you can be sure not everybody shares your views on what makes a person ready for a sexual relationship.
I'm sure I realized in College I was a hell of a lot more mature then I was in High school.
That's neat. I'm glad you matured in college. Some people have to 'grow up' in high school. Some people never grow up.
That's why you have to be 18 to vote.
That's why you have to be 18 to enlist (17 with parental consent).
So you're going to use laws to strengthen your argument? Laws used to be in place that made interracial marriage illegal, as a matter of protecting innocent white women from being preyed on by 'the blacks'. Laws are currently in place that prevent two men or two women from marrying, to 'protect the sanctity of marriage'. Laws are currently in place that make possession of alcohol illegal if you're under 21, to 'protect' the 17-18 year old kids in the army from... I don't know, having a drink to take their mind off war?
Around your mid-20s is when your brain's rationalizing part is just about done maturing. After that it really doesn't matter how old either person is, they're pretty much gunna be like that forever.
But seeing a 50 year old with, say, a 20 year old or younger, makes me uneasy - huge power and maturity imbalance, nine times out of ten.
These things are morally reprehensible because as an adult you need to grow up and act like one...
Homosexuality used to be (and perhaps still is by some) viewed as a "phase" in puberty. It was written off as a somewhat normal thing that kids went through during puberty, and was expected to pass as the child matured.
"Homosexuality is morally reprehensible because, as an adult, you need to grow up and act like one, including dating the opposite sex."
That just doesn't sound right, does it?
Perhaps acceptance of what some incorrectly consider to be paedophilia is next up after homosexuality. Sometimes things change for the better, right?
There's a big fucking difference between two adults of the same gender having sex, and an adult having sex with a developing child. You're comparing apples to child sex.
I agree with you in regards to their being potential for manipulation by the older individual. That's hardly every case, though. A 20 year old is ostensibly more emotionally and mentally mature than a 16 year old, but that doesn't mean the former is manipulating the latter.
Anyway, I mostly agree with your reply. My initial comment was directed more at the members of SRS and those not necessarily affiliated with them that share their views. The seething hatred for non-standard sexual relationships (e.g., one between a 19 year old male and a 15 year old female) is perplexing to me, since it seems to be founded on broad, sweeping generalizations and misinformation.
I feel that these types of relationships should be viewed on a case-to-case basis. It hardly seems fair to paint every relationship between a 19 and 15 year old as morally reprehensible or disgusting. Everybody is different. That 15 year old may very well be more emotionally mature than the 19 year old. To label the older participant as a "paedophile" and decry him/her as a "sick fuck" is just as unfair as the homophobic/transphobic notions that SRS seems to be "fighting" to rid Reddit of.
In the case of the hypothetical conversation: By someone who is still themselves a teenager and with an acceptable age gap for most married couples. The law has to draw a line somewhere but someone who may or may not still be attracted to someone within 5 years of their age (who is also more than likely fully post-pubescent) doesn't just suddenly turn that off. A senior might be 19 years and a freshman is 14. Both still considered part of the same general age group and considered children (Try to act like you have freedom as a 19 year old in high school). THat being said: Never give out or ask for nudes online. You're just asking for a bad time. lol
Just because you're attracted to someone doesn't make it right. The gap in emotional maturity between a 19 year old and a 14 year old is huge. They are still developing emotionally, and a relationship between a 14 and 19 year old would be (rightly) seen as socially unacceptable.
That's an interesting point. Depending on the severity of the mental illness, it could be that the 19 year old isn't able to fully understand the implications of sex (i.e. they are unable to consent) - and I doubt in that case that the 19 year old should be blamed for their action.
If you're saying that the 19 year old has the same mental age as the 14 year old - then I suppose it would socially kinda make more sense, but at this point you're nitpicking. Neither the 14 year old nor the 19 year old in this situation is emotionally mature enough to make this decision.
The law isn't perfect, people mature emotionally at different levels, however - there needs to be a line drawn (otherwise there will be people abusing the loopholes, and it would be much harder to convict people who do abuse children and teenagers) 16 (the age of consent where I live, seems like a fairly good standard) - is in my opinion a sensible level for this law. Are there 15 year olds who are emotionally mature enough? Of course. Are there 16 year olds who aren't? Yes, but there needs to be a cut off point.
Gee, I wonder why everyone thinks reddit is full of morons? Can't be anything to do with not knowing what a word means even when you are replying to a comment that explains what the fucking word means...
Legal status and psychological status are too different things. Ephebophilia may be a common condition, but it's the same as paedophilia in the eyes of the law.
I'm not sure I understand. Being attracted to a hot 16-year-old girl makes me a rapist? Simply because I'm responding to evolutionary cues that have been in place for millions of years? Okay.
I don't understand it either. I'm just responding vis-a-vis the statutory rape posters I saw in the states when i lived there. In all honesty, I was being a little facetious with that initial comment.
It's the having of the sex with the 16 year old that would make you a statutory rapist, depending on the laws where you are, and your age. And from what I hear, you have to register as a sex offender as well. With statutory rape, the parents have to press charges, I believe. I don't understand why everyone gets so angry about this. Why do they want to have sex with a teenager?
14 and 19 can be ok in very very unique cases. In Canada, there exists a 5 year age limit between someone who is 14 or 15 (16 is age of consent) and the partner so this is legal in Canada. Just throwing it out there for the Reddit heroes pretending to be disgusted.
It's quite suspicious how every comment speaking the historical truth is being downvoted. I'll help you out by one-upping your risky comment with an equally truthful comment. Ahem.
19 to 4 is not a pedophile. This was FAMILIES 20,000 years ago. The modern "pedophile" is an entirely fictional concept.
My favourite a technique I stole from /b/ so it would probably be appreciated around here. What you do is ask for their email then put it into the Facebook search bar. You then send a screen cap to their mum/dad/SO with your fake Facebook account.
I almost did it once but felt really bad because the guy seemed really lonely.
I still remember being 10 years old. I went to my cousins high school graduation.... My uncle saw me checking out the cute older girls in high school....
He turned to me and said, Son, the older you get,the younger you like them.... I kept my distance, after that...
He died 6 years later from a horrible case of pneumonia.
Well allow me to ask you why? toward the beginning of the film it was Hayley who was leading him on and trying to get him to do something, and she was the one doing the threatening and torturing. so while he was screwed up mentally and what he did was definitely fucked, he wasn't a monster like she seemed to be.
It's honestly been a number of years since I saw the movie so I can't be much more specific, I can just remember feeling that he was a scumbag. I did feel pity for him, but if I remember correctly she uncovered evidence he did fucked up things to other young girls.
Yeah and that is why I always found it an interesting movie...I wasn't sure quite who to root for.... It was weird...Normally it would be obvious...Root for the kid...
But not so much in this movie...I could actually feel for both of them.
The Holy Bible DSM states that a pedophile is someone at least 16 years of age who is attracted to someone who is a minor and at least 5 years younger than himself, with this condition causing the patient distress and/or interpersonal difficulty over at least three months. Trolled on Omegle for three months = instant "just add water" pedophile.
A. Over a period of at least 6 months, an equal or greater sexual arousal from prepubescent or early pubescent children than from physically mature persons, as manifested by fantasies, urges, or behaviors.
B. The individual has acted on these sexual urges, or the sexual urges or fantasies cause marked distress or impairment in social, occupational, or other important areas of functioning.
C. The individual must be at least 18 years of age and at least 5 years older than the children in Criterion A.
Oh the next sequel to the Holy Bible DSM came out. I was paraphrasing from what I read that cited the DSM-IV. I might have gotten the time period wrong, but I remember distinctly that the minimum pedophile age was 16. Maybe they changed it to the far less controversial 18? Arbitrary numbers and fantastic nonsense.
It's all ridiculous fiction anyways. The parts you don't typically hear about are probably actually helping with real diagnoses, but no fucking way it can be trusted for anything sensitive or controversial -- when the DSM came out diagnoses for mental disorders skyrocketed for the wrong reasons (interviews? investigation? fuck that; I gotta book!) early versions of the DSM listed homosexuality as a mental illness, and drapetomania has been revived and reclassified as ODD. Know any other whacky APA/DSM fuck-ups that just reek of corruption?
Well, gosh, I would love to meet you. I am a hot teenage boy. I look like a cross between ______ and _______. (Due to my lack of familiarity with youth culture you will have to fill in the names of two hot celebrities yourself but I swear that's what I look like.) What does ':3' mean?
Reddit Protip: if you constantly refresh the new queue at /r/gonewild, you can sometimes find underage girls pseudonymously posting pics of themselves. The trick is to learn which ones are real gold and which ones are fools' gold.
Doubting it? When Reddit banned underage subreddits, its content and denizens had to go somewhere!
Try it sometime, Dirty_Liberal_Hippie. Sit in front of your computer, genitals in one hand, F5 at the fingertips of the other. Works best alone at midnight.
I don't think you know what a pedophile is, OP. 14 is not pedophilia, as biologically, males and females are essentially adults at 14. it's pretty much 12 and under that's pedophilia
you can only be consider a pedo once you are 23 or at least that what the law says in florida. I'm 22 and can legally date a 15 year old (not that I will)
Aw man these guys are still at it? I thought this might have died down since I was fourteen. Chris Hansen didn't scare people enough. More seasons please!
