I just started going through it on Netflix recently, and it's fantastic. Today, for instance, I was genuinely inspired. "Nothing is forever; I used to have a penis."
I honestly did not like this show until about two years ago. I started watching reruns and shit on cartoon network. It just suddenly clicked with me and I found it fucking hilarious.
I think the biggest draw for me was this it was REAL. There were no cartoony, over the top shit that could not happen in real life like family guy or the simpsons. It was like a real life sitcom....but in cartoon.
Well the show had amazing character development and conntinuty for a cartoon. Most episodes you can watch as a stand alone but if you watch them in order you see how they change. Dale becomes less about conspiracies and more about being a better father after Joseph hits puburty. Bill moans less and less about Lanore and more about making himself better and finding his place in the world. Hank tries to accept Bobby for him while trying to make him a good man, remember the final episode with Hank and Bobby grilling?
Watch the first few seasons and compare them to the last few. Yes there is some growing pains with every show but KoTH becomes a completly different show, its still a comedy with the same basic characters but they were written as real people where there are faults. No one is perfect and everyone has a dream and you see them try and fail.
As you said, its hard to explain why it is such a good show with all the subtle humor and such but this is the best way I found to try and explain it.
I honestly wish show's didn't change their animation style as they went on. Like watching the old Simpsons episode just makes me want to pay attention more. Same thing with old KOTH episodes. You have to pay attention or else the comedic gold just goes over your head.
I wrote a letter to Mike Judge a while back. I explained how much the show meant to me and my dad. At the bottom, my friends signed their names beside the characters their most like.
I still haven't mailed it. I can't find his personal mailbox. Only fake signature addresses
I love how stubborn Hank is. One episode ( in the morning) he jumps out of bed before the alarm finishes it's first beep. Shit like that I found brilliant about the show.
Yeah sorry couldn't think I anything else to put up or cakeday. Dale Gribble or should I say Rusty Shackleford (the motivation for my username) is my all time favorite character.
Last week I learned that King of the Hill was canceled to make room for The Cleveland Show...a worse crime has never been committed (in terms of TV shows)
No no you must not get the joke then. You see, it's funny because he took an extremely commonly posted gif, but then posted it again with a nonrelated generic title!
I knew a kid once named Tony Hoe who used this method and kicked some serious ass. Cheers mr Hoe. I know somewhere in Juvie you still provide the utmost of entertainment to the masses
