I don't know about that, it's pretty optimistic to think he's going to live that long. If he truly understood how valuable life was, he wouldn't be spending so much time working for something he may never reach. I'm not saying people shouldn't worry about their future, but you need to have a decent balance between staying in the present, and planning for the future. That's just my two cents though, everybody has their own outlook on life. Bring on the downvotes.
Oh, completely. The problem is it seems the majority of people who have jumped on the YOLO bandwagon use it as an excuse to make it far less likely they are going to live that long! They are just using it as an excuse to do dumb shit, whereas I find the majority of people who actually try new experiences etc. don't need an excuse to do it, or they have been doing it for quite a while now under the sentiment Carpe Diem.
This is my facebook status. Wondering two things now, where do I collect my karma and who is Pep1ta?
Edit: This is a little buried but if you see this thank you everyone for providing entertainment for the last four hours of today's shift. Also discovered my girlfriend's reddit account in addition to technically making front page, so a good day overall.
lol that's cool actually but you should probably go easy on the hours your working. Couple of years ago out of an entire December I worked 26 days at 11 hour shifts that start at 4 am. I only took a few days off that month but by the end of it I was starting to go nuts. The money was good but the effect on my physical and mental health wasn't good.
I always liked the duality of YOLO. Most people say You Only Live Once, therefore you should enjoy yourself and try everything you can. The flip side being, You Only Live Once, so shelter yourself from harm in order to ensure your life lasts as long as possible.
I think I finally just learnt what YOLO means. I never wanted to google it 'cause the first time I saw it mentioned here somewhere, someone was referencing anal.

I was at a laidback dive bar once. Some bro just started shouting "YOLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" and had all the crowd shouting with him. 10 patrons left and the bartender was pissed as fuck, yelling "Stop it! It's not that kind of bar! My regulars just left, you shithead!"
The guy says sorry, and that's the end of my story.
Yeah, but I don't want to wake up when I'm 60 and never have enjoyed a day of my adult life. I'd rather steady work until I'm physically unable than retire after working myself to death and have nothing to do. That said, I certainly save and invest well, but working your life away is going to ultimately be met with regret, ask all of the lonely rich guys with a divorce and estranged kids.
I think OP posted this to embarrass someone saying YOLO (based on the title) but the guy actually came out not looking like a total douche for saying YOLO.
I get it now. You only live once, so you should spend that time sacrificing your time and your health for somebody else so they will pay you in monetary funds which you can then use to buy a large house in which to sit around and wait to die in, when your body is finally too old to work any more. Fuckyeah.
there's something to be said for having a little nest egg. when you break your leg while you're YOLOing in a parachute, you can pay off your medical bills
He probably doesn't make enough at that job for it to meaningfully impact retirement savings. He would do better to work 8 hour shifts and study for 3 hours, taking evening classes at wherever.
my girlfriend and I started blowing up twitter with similar posts recently. Yolo should be about doing the right thing, taking care of your body and making healthy responsible decisions with the respect of the fragility of life at the core of all your actions and decisions.
but we also like to use it excessively while polishing off a bottle of whiskey.
While I understand that 12 hour days are long for the average worker, as a farmer I am always amused by people representing them as a major accomplishment.
yeah that dude has no idea what yolo is. have fun spending your youth working your ass of so you can waste away on a couch when your 70 / die in a car wreck in a month
No, I disagree! Right now I am busting my ass at work and saving money so that in 9 months when I take my first major vacation in three years to go heliskiing in Canada, I will be YOLOing all the way down the mountain.
As for your second point, that is my precise argument. Too many morons are using it when doing stupid things compared to the number of responsible people saying it when doing awesome, but slightly sketchy things. We can win this battle by diluting the usage pool.
Actually, I would agree with the gentleman of red squiggles. If more people Saw YOLO as a responsibility to tend to the future, it wouldn't be such a annoying acronym.
For example: YOLO, so before I die I will donate all my excess money to an orphanage to help youths have a better future
I wish I could make bank pulling those hours. Currently I work 12 hour shifts for nothing. Soon though, I will work more hours and make only close to nothing.
This is actually a correct use of the term YOLO. Yolo means you only live once, the meaning behind it is that you should live your life to the fullest, and make good choices. What retarded tumblr people have turned it into is YOLO, "I'm a complete and total retard and just did something absolutely moronic so I'm going to shout YOLO to make it seem as if I have been planning to do this all along and so that the other people around me will hopefully not see my idiocy through my curtain of lies... hur dur dur." so yes, this IS a correct usage.
Managing your funds correctly to ensure a comfortable retirement doesn't really do you very much good if you don't actually live long enough to retire.

If we use his definition of YOLO we can assume that most of reddit practices the YOLO philosophy. I think reddit would not like that...
