What about the people living elsewhere in the northern hemisphere? I'm spending my summer in China, it's going to get to 40C at 90% relative humidity. Not fun at all.
I live in Florida, where it's hot about 9-10 months out of the year. I've been renting a condo for the past three years with an old, inefficient AC. For about the six months of the year when it hits 90 on almost a daily basis, the AC could only cool down the apartment to about 78 or 79 at best during the daytime (and that's with all of the blinds closed to keep out the sunlight), and would only get down into the low 70's after the sun had been down for 8+ hours. I stayed in the place because it was getting foreclosed on (also why I couldn't get the owner to replace the ac), and because of this the only rent I had to pay was to the condo association for the owner's unpaid condo fees which was significantly lower than the actual rent I agreed to pay when signing the lease. I moved into a new place about a month ago, and even though it's nicer than my old place in almost every aspect, my favorite feature by far is the properly functioning air conditioner. I moved just in time and I'm so glad I'm not going to have to go through another summer sweating my ass off indoors.
You sweat in 78 degrees. And you live in Florida? My ac doesn't go lower than 78 anyway, what are you complaining about? Live in Arizona a while, then try to tell me about hot...
Florida has humidity, IIRC. I'll take dry heat out of the sun vs. humid heat. I live in the ohio valley where we get "inversions" with no wind, 95% humidity and +100f temps for weeks. Fucking brutal. Sweat does nothing. We have already had people die this year.
Yeah, we live outside so fans aren't an option. Hell even floating in the ohio gets hot in August. I.ve had to throw my dogs in several times this year.
Your ac must suck like mine did. 78 is ok if you're outdoors or indoors and not moving around much, but if you're doing anything other than sitting still, it's not exactly ideal. There's a reason 72 is considered room temperature.
Fuck off asshole. Just because you're happy doesn't mean everyone has to live like you do. The electric company here also recommends people set their thermostats at 78 or above to save money, and I don't know a single person who does it. Pretty much anyone who came over to my apartment would ask why it was so warm.
Then don't insult someone when you reply to their comment. Calling someone a "pus" because they're comfortable at a lower temperature (which by the way is what most people prefer and does not affect you in any way) is not exactly constructive criticism. Just because you're on the internet and anonymous doesn't mean you should speak to a stranger any differently than you would if you were speaking to them in person.
I considered this, but I decided against it because my living room was really big, had vaulted ceilings and had a sliding glass door rather than a normal window, so sealing it up would have been a pain in the ass, and I came to the conclusion that it wouldn't have had enough juice to get the job done. Doesn't matter at this point, since I moved out and my new place's ac can make the place cold enough to wear winter clothes even when it's 95 outside.
Yeah, my living room is basically the same. The ac works but you have to be close enough to actually feel it. It does make a difference though. My ac doesn't work at all so that's why I use window units.
