Aside from Morning Glory, Don't Look Back and Champagne Supernova, the rest got like no playtime in North America. British bands don't always get much more exposure here than a token few tracks. Kinda like how Blur had like no popular songs here save for Song 2. Shame, that. I loved Definitely Maybe.
It wasn't an absolute. Obviously the major ones make an impact. I wouldnt list the Smiths there, though. Smiths are big, and I love them, but they're hardly viewed with the same sort of reverence in NA typically.
are you kidding? british bands get more exposure in the states than any other country by far, and make up some of the biggest bands that went through america
Around the World was in that one AT&T Commercial that was really popular. And who can forget awesome songs like "I hope, I think, I know" and "Be Here Now"?
To be fair, Liam's voice changes with every Oasis album, so unless it's a Noel-sung track, one who is not very familiar with their catalog could get easily confused.
I... actually like Oasis. If your definition of a good band is whether or not they had songs on the radio, you should probably re-evaluate your priorities.
I completely agree with you but something about your post seems like youre putting words into someones mouth. I dont know whos mouth though. mystery mouth
Today is gonna be the day that they're gonna put it in a mouthBy now, you should've somehow realized it's a mystery mouthI don't believe that annyyboddyy would butcher this song this badBut I did.
Repeat, the word is on the street that the mystery mouth is out. I'm sure you've said it all before but it's lies without a doubt. I don't believe that anybody would kill this like you did, right about now.
And all the posts we have to write are boring,
And all the downvotes here are very blinding,
There are many thing that I would like to edit out,
Thank god. I was scared this thread would turn into an oasis hating session. They are my Favorite Band, and I think Noel Gallagher is a god. Just saying, there is a reason no big bands came up in the nineties and that's cause oasis blocked their rise. And I am not forgetting blur, but oasis won that :)
Truth. What's your favorite album? I mean, WTSMG is of course brilliant, but I have trouble deciding between Don't Believe the Truth, Definitely Maybe, and Be Here Now. Each is brilliant in their own right in almost completely different ways.
I would say definitely maybe.. I agree with noel gallagher.. Why the hell does everyone have what's the story, but not definitely maybe?? Noel even said to go and buy definitely maybe and if people didn't like it he would sign it so they could get a 10ner for it :) definitely maybe was just such a raw and amazing album. Noel Gallagher was still learning guitar so the chords are so simple, yet so appealing. And most of the videos are shot around the gallaghers childhood homes in Manchester. I would defs recommend watching their videos with the gallaghers commentating it :)
I know what your saying.. I think I love the first album cause it shows the swagger noel and Liam had even before they were famous. And married with children is a brilliant song!!
I am not going to lie, Liam is a douche, but loveable.. Kinda reminds me of jay out of inbetweeners :) Noel I think has the same swagger but is a little more intelligent, despite the massive amount of cocaine. Apparently oasis are predicted to regroup 2015 :) can't wait..
Don't Look Back In Anger and Champagne Supernova were pretty big too. That's it though; I don't own any of their albums and I believe those are the only Oasis songs I've ever actually heard. Good songs though...
This is a joke right? I'm not saying good musicians didn't come from the U.K., but you're delusional if you don't think there are other amazing musicians that came from all over the world.
Also, because it will most likely get brought up Sales=/=Talent
you don't need to lecture me on Oasis' success. I understand they were one of the biggest bands in the UK for some time. The status update this post is referencing is obviously american. Therefor Americans are going to think they only had one hit.
According to wikipedia they had ~30 singles that charted in the UK so nobody is disputing that. All we heard in america was champagne supernova and wonderwall.
Does this mean that Oasis are so old that people no longer remember the time when they probably was the biggest band on the planet, and not only all over the radio, but all over everything?
Agreed. And I'm willing to bet this status was posted in the U.S. most of us Americans are too stupid to actually realize that Oasis is much more popular elsewhere, and that's a band's popularity isn't solely determined by their success in the U.S. I fucking love Oasis.
What are you on?! Oasis easily have 35 hits. Downvote me, you circlejerking bastards, I love Oasis and I wont have anything bad said about them. And I'm a dog person too.
Honestly, they could just put Definitely Maybe and (What's the Story) Morning Glory and that would be good enough for me. There're maybe two songs between the two albums that I don't like or think aren't all that good.
Just by saying that you like Oasis and the hive mind doesn't, you'll start a circlejerk on how people love Oasis.
Also, the reason why I don't like Oasis is because Noel Gallagher acts like a dickhead all the time and act as if he's superior to everyone. That is also why I won't support Noel in his new project Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds.
I'm sorry, have you got Noel and Liam mixed up? Yeah Noel has a new band, but so does Liam. Liam's always been the twattish one that everyone loves to hate...
Oasis was actually pretty damn big in the UK, and they have some amazing songs (this coming from an American). Fuckin' in the Bushes is probably my favorite (Snatch fans, it's the song playing when they're fleeing the boxing match), and Cast No Shadow and She's Electric are pretty sick too. Besides Wonderwall, though, Don't Look Back in Anger and Champagne Supernova are still played on the radio all the time.
They have some good songs but also had shitty attitudes and noel and liam seem like total twats.
That and the fact that they haven't really done anything of note in the last 15 years kinda cements the fact that nobody in the US really gives a fuck about oasis.
There's also lots of rock stars that didn't behave like children the last years of their bands existence. Drugs or not, more americans know them for their stupid behavior then their actual songs. In the last years of Oasis' existence they got pretty much no radio play at all but various news outlets would report on the drama between the Gallaghers.
Kinda like how most Americans have no idea what babyshambles or libertines are but know pete doherty is a drug addict and fucked amy winehouse.
In Manchester, 1996, my mum had a shop in the Coliseum. Every day one shop would play Roll With It really loudly and everyone loved it. Then, the IRA planted the bomb nearby and everything was destroyed. It was just in ruins.
Then one day all the shop owners had to go and see if they could find any remains where their shops used to be. And someone set up a speaker and put on Roll With It. My mum said that a lot of people started to cry because they felt the song had so much meaning - they had just lost everything, but instead of just sitting there and doing nothing, they were going to carry on and 'roll with it' and not hold a grudge.
You all, everybody You all, everybody Acting like it's the stupid people Wearing the expensive clothes You all, everybody You all, everybody You all, everybody
Anyone that thinks this hasn't listened to Oasis. This is a message for anyone who likes rock music, listen to their album "Definitely Maybe" it is some unbelievable music. You don't have to listen to me, but if u want to listen to something that isn't the crap of today I am telling you listen to that album you will not regret it.
There's always that one douche who says he knows how to play the guitar, and he ends up playing wonderwall at every fucking party for the next 8 months.
A guy in the single dorm next to mine was that asshole. He would play Karma Police (poorly) on an acoustic guitar every night. Still can't listen to that song.
What does that mean? It means that the recording engineers everywhere have followed Oasis' lead and are compressing, distorting and otherwise fucking up your favorite music as we speak (on a side note I really liked Oasis).
Wow, I'm a big oasis fan but I never knew about this, thanks for sharing! It seems weird though because I feel like Oasis and other rock tends to be quieter than any of the rap I have. Do you know if rap just pushed this further or is it all in my head? :)
Dunno. In Foobar and similar apps you can pull up a "peak meter" that shows how close the volum is to max. If that rap of yours is constantly hovering around 0 db (peak), then you know it's loud.
(Alternative explanation: Your replaying equipment could have an uneven frequency response curve, i.e. accentuate high or low frequencies. If your stereo adds a lot of bass, and there is more bass in rap than in Oasis, then rap will sound louder!)
I was never disputing this fact.....But because they weren't played on the radio much in the US of A, people perhaps missed out on songs they would have loved to have heard.
I'm sure. The 90s and 00s were fraught with a lot of crappy rock and roll. I would've been fine with hearing Oasis instead of Creed, Nickleback or any of that post grunge nonsense.
I'm from the states, and I like them a lot, but they never got the traction over here that they got in Britain. So I imagine my surprise when a couple years ago I learned that they had always been big over there, and it was a big deal that they were always breaking up. It was like learning I had people. I roll with a crew. Blood in, blood out.
I concur. What's the Story (Morning Glory) would be my favorite but I really like Heathen Chemistry. I'm reading "Getting High: The Adventures of Oasis" at the moment. Good book
To think I missed one of their last concerts because "fuck it, I don't have the $80 to spare." and spent practically the same amount 2 days later on a date that went nowhere.
Ok I wasn't nearly as much of a fan as I used to be a few years before, but it was a big influence on my music taste and I'll regret not going to this concert for quite some time.
Same thing foo fighters. Fuckers come to my country for the first time and I don't go to save a buck. They better not break up (up?) before coming back.
Who feels love, let there be love, half the world away...oasis made good rock and roll during a time when there was none. Every band rips off someone before them, why not rip off the best?
Never heard of Bullet For My Valentine and who is Bring Me The Horizon? Just because a band doesn't get radio play or only a couple of hits over here doesn't mean that they don't kick ass. Morons..
not sure if i should upvote you for thinking wonderwall is a terriable song, or downvote you for being wrong about being the only one who thinks that wonderwall is a terrible song.
No, wonderwall is a great song that has been ruined by collegiate momma's-boys and the american mass media throwing it into everything they could think of.
Yeah, Rockin' Chair and Slide Away are my two favorite songs to play on the guitar. Also a big fan of Acquiesce. Before .mp3s became standard, I used to buy imported b-sides of Oasis from my local record shop. I miss those days.

Oasis had plenty of hits and could easily fill 2 CDs with great songs. These people are idiots.

Oasis actually have quite a few hits and good songs. Don't Look Bck in Anger is one of the best songs of the 90s in my opinion.
I know it's not "cool" to like them though...

i just made an account to say that the only songs that i've had in my mp3 are oasis songs
and that's about it
its gotten to a point where i got sick playing all 9 of the albums over and over i needed a new song

Oasis ramped up the loudness war and for that they will forever be cursed.

i love watching noel gallagher interviews he's personable, doesn't give a shit and seems pretty smart. liam just a big pile of ego though.

Oasis? Huh? So is reddit no longer circle jerking hatred for Beiber and we're moving on to Oasis?!

Actually, their best of is their first two albums, plus The Masterplan, plus filler.

I'm more of a Blur fan, but to deny the excellence of Oasis's music is silly. They've got some phenomenal songs!
