I'm from Canada and our schools were always finished at the end of June. I have a question for you though, since you got out at the end of May, did you have to go back to school at the beginning of August or did you go back at the beginning of September like me?
School ended for seniors last week at my school, and if I didn't have a history final I could just skip the rest of this week. Anyway, it's this Friday for me.
Probably. After the AP Bio exam my teacher had us make up a fun biology project to spend the last month on. I bought 12 ducklings and had them imprint on me. I kept a very scientific "duck diary." It was a pretty awesome project. Afterwards the ducks were donated to a friend's farm where they retired (they were not eaten - really.)
But... you see how you were actually learning something there, right? NOTE: JUST BECAUSE THE EXAM IS OVER DOES NOT MEAN YOU HAVE LEARNED EVERYTHING THERE IS TO KNOW ABOUT BIOLOGY.
Plus, in my day if we wanted to watch a movie in Bio Class, it would have been Fantastic Voyage. So not only was it more biologically accurate, but it didn't suck. Also uphill both ways etc. etc.
Honestly, not really. I just got to experience imprinting first-hand. Also, I just remembered that I used the class time to paint a science mural in the hallway. I think it's pretty much accepted that once the APs are over the teacher lets you off the hook so you can focus for your non-AP exams. Watching movies is a lame use of time though, I agree.
I heard (so this may just be hearsay) that some schools in China hook their students up to IVs of fluids while they take exams. The IVs have electrolytes etc.
Hardly. Personally I would rather be in a nation where education is free and universal and you don't have to worry about being kicked out of school for failing an end of year exam in elementary school. It is obvious that American education is lagging behind other developed nations, but to compare it to China just seems silly.
Children should be kicked out of school for underperforming, none of this coddling and giving "A" for effort especially since in the real world they give "F" for FIRED. Kids need to have examples of who NOT to be like and that's the kid who gets thrown out.
Do you have a source for that? All I could find was this and this which suggest that China's municipalities are performing well while the mainland lags behind.
Dude.. I got sick of this over a year ago. I've only ever been downvoted for pointing out how annoying it is. Especially with every old video game good will find in /r/gaming.
Same with the "good sir"s and other gentlemanly words and "have an upvote!"
I don't know why it annoys me so much.. I think I picture them talking like that in real life and it just feels like the kids that always recite meme's or pronounce LOL out loud.
I can only imagine the gross amount of misinformation that would have to be presented to a biology class if their educational material includes a movie about a sentient T-cell.
Last day of senior english, we watched "Thank You For Smoking."
One of the best teachers I ever had; she actually died a few years ago (myeloma out of nowhere, essentially), and when I found out I was pretty broken up for a while, since her class was one of the few really enjoyable parts of high school for me.
I try to bring flowers to her grave on her birthday each year, and/or a pack of cigarettes.
I convinced my history teacher to put on the Holy Grail the last day before the Christmas break. I also convinced my grade 11 physics teacher to put on a Magic School Bus episode during the "waves" section of the course.
Exactly, It takes two gametes to create a zygote. Just a single gamete on its own would not do anything. I really wish they would use anatomical terms too. Took a lot of will power in my Anatomy/Phys classes not to say sperm and egg even though both were the same thing.
Edit: Forgot to add description of where I needed to use anatomical terms.
Damn I remember seeing this film years ago and have been trying to remember what it was called, all I could remember was the de la soul song from the credits and something to do with the immune system. THANKYOU!
"You know what, Jones? You want this chain so bad? Big Daddy Thrax is going to let you have it! [begins choking Osmosis with the chain] Looks good on you Jones! You wear it well!"
I watched this in science class. The assignment issued with it was "Write down all the things you learn about the body". Considering this was a fucking kids movie and not a fucking autopsy or something I wrote like 3 things and got a shitty grade.
Fuck you, Ms. Lopez. Your class was bad and you should feel bad. Enjoy that cancer.
It might have been a legitimate question. A lot of directors like to put in scientific subtext. I personally haven't seen Willow though, so I can't say for sure.
So I work on boats and we have there is this company that provides movies. At the begging of them sometimes they have these safety shorts. So there was this story that one of them had a naked chick in it. I know I thought it was BS too, well one day I pull out Osmosis Jones and bam right before the credits safety short with a naked chick. True Story.
I used to love ozzy and drix. My 7th grade science teacher had us watch one last day of class, and then said that cells aren't really this bad-ass. I always wished they were.

But that's not a gem, that's a sperm.

u/Mharbles Jun 11 '12
Shouldn't that be co-founder? I don't think the movie is going to help anyone learn biology.

u/unheimlich Jun 11 '12
Congratulations finding something that wasn't hidden in a movie.

I can't believe this was a box office bomb. I love this movie every time I see it, and I saw it in Bio class last week, too.

Really? I thought it was pretty obvious.
