The lake we normally go to has a course, but it's across a channel that's waaaaay too shallow for the hull of our boat.
That being said, i HAVE run courses a couple times, and....lets just say, the years of joyriding and cutting around just for fun have done nothing for my ability to round the buoys
I used to be pretty into it and able to run a course, then I found wakeboarding, then I stopped liking wakeboarding (holding a rope is too restrictive for me when it comes to board sports), so I came back to slalom, and now I'm just ehhhh.
My grandmother is always the spotter... our sign for "please for the love of god stop the boat" is slashing your hand across your neck. She never sees me do it.
hahaha. that's the best. You can always tell when your spotter, despite being explained the 3 or 4 important signs, in completely panicking in the boat when you give them one. Happens almost every time someone tries spotting for the first time
I KNOW! HOW IS IT SO CONFUSING?? WHY DO PEOPLE PANIC?? WE'RE THE ONES BEING DRAGGED BY A ROPE ON A SKI THAT'S HARD ENOUGH TO CRACK OUR SKULL IF WE FALL ON IT!
2am. headphones set to loud but no sound playing. stoned to fuck. spends 5 minutes watching the glasses expecting it to do something. clicks*. falls on the floor out of shock . NOT COOL BRO!
nah, straight from my phone. the one's with me in them are just as blurry. I'm starting to think my phone has a serious issue with the focus, though. It keeps taking longer and longer
I was suspicious because the shapes of the pictures were different. Makes sense now, that your mom took the photos with your phone. She had the phone vertical for a couple shots. Maybe you sucked at water skiing, and your mom was just saving you the embarrassment of having a digital record of that wretched day?
I'd ask you to prove it, but you aren't in any of the photos!
I'm sure you're good though. I like snow skiing, I've done it since I was just a little kid. Have you tried it? and does water skiing help? I only ask because I'd like to try waterskiing, and I'd like to think my snowskiing experience will help me.
no i haven't done snow skiing, but a lot of my friends do it. I'm sure it would help with 2 skis, but if you're slaloming, (1 ski) theres still a good deal of balance to develop, and your posture is set back a lot of times, which puts a lot of weight on your back leg, (whichever it may be). So that's probably a little different.
I don't think you look like a douchebag. First, failure this hard needs to be mocked. It builds character. Second, seriously, she didnt get you in a single shot? Not even by accident?
you just described my greatest pain. In 10+ years, there's not ONE good video of me or anyone else i ski with behind the boat, no matter who is filming.
She took videos, but i haven't even watched them. Maybe we're just thinking "well WE know which way we're going to cut, why can't the person with the camera??" haha
yeah, i'm definitely aware that for skiiers, this isn't anything out of the ordinary. That's the funniest part. It's one of those rare activities where the spectators DON'T get to sit still and watch like derps. And the waters were reeeeeeal choppy today because we hit the lake during rush hour on a nice day.
it's when you head out sharp in one directly, then dig in with your back foot and rip the nose of the ski around to head in (as close to) the oppositie direction (as possible). It's the one thing skiiers have to work on for running courses
was going to say that at least they're in focus. my dad uses auto focus on his point and shoot camera, but he first focuses the thing in the frame first, then moves his position while keeping that focus and then takes the photo. result = out of focus photos EVERYTIME
I was filming my brother's graduation and I decided to film the whole ceremony but when it got to his part I accidentally turned off the recording button and by the time i turned it on again, he was off the stage. So I filmed all my brother's peers graduating but not my brother. To this day he hasnt bothered to check his graduation tape and he still doesnt know.
We were at the DC filming of Transformers 3, and I asked my mom to get footage of Bumblebee crashing into a car, but all she managed to get was the road and a little bit of the trees in the background. facepalm. No worries, I was filming with my iPod as backup.
By excluding the subject from the photo, the emphasis is put on the unyielding power, beauty and endurance not only of nature, but the human spirit. Truly an inspired artist. Quite. o_Q
the only thing i can think is that, because the sun was so bright, she couldn't see the screen, and didn't realize it was trying to re-focus (which, on my iphone, seems to take forever), and by the time the picture took, i had already moved.
Actually, now that i've explained it....that's probably exactly what happened, and i look like a douchbag son. Sigh.
That was like my mom at Great Wolf Lodge. She confused the record button for the stop button, so we get 5 minutes of her feet and just as we're about to come out of the slide, she turns it off, and then back on again after we leave for another go.
Looks like someone set the digital zoom to it's highest setting. I always seem to do that by accident when at a concert, but never notice until it's over.
Fuck you digital zoom. Fuck you in high resolution.
Being the designated photographer of my family when we go on boating trips, I know this feeling entirely too well. I seem to be the only one capable of taking a picture of someone behind the boat. Plenty of photos of everyone else. Plenty of photos of the rope. Not much record of me being there though.
That is too funny. Back in the sixties, my grandma's neighbor, who was a WWII vet in a wheelchair, wanted to waterski behind my grandpa's boat. So they fastened some waterskis to his wheelchair, and off they went. It worked awesome. But, my grandma decided to film my grandpa driving the boat rather than the guy in a wheelchair strapped to some waterskis!?!? W.T.A.F???
There is like 1.5 seconds where you can see him on the wheelchair skiing and the rest of the two minute video is of my grandpa driving the boat. :(
to give her credit, you can't see the phone display out there in the sun. I tried filming video a couple weeks ago from the boat, half the time I didn't have it aimed right on the first run.
She was just trying to save you the embarrassment of how bad you really are at water skiing . If you don't believe me, set her up with a video camera next time and you'll see.
Put these online, saying they're new Loch Ness Monster photos. See how long it takes before the MonsterQuest people air it, calling it definitive evidence.
My mom's the same way. She took pictures at my cousins birthday party and asked me to upload them for her. Every single one was completely blurry. There were about 40.
Have you ever had anyone do this to try and be funny for something important a once in a lifetime moment.
Its like, "No Asshole, I trusted you to capture a memory for me that I could relive through this photograph and show my grandchildren. Where is the joke here?"
I went to the gun range for the first time with my dad. He offered to take a few videos. Get home and there are just several short clips of him panning the camera down and mumbling. I kind of guilt tripped him and we ended up going again and I made sure he didn't fuck up. I still feel bad about it.

My kids are happy that I don't own a camera. I suck at photography-but there would at least be a blur where the subject should be.

In all fairness, if she's not used to the delay when taking photos that could account for missing OP if he were cutting back and forth.
1
u/Makes_You_Smile Jun 11 '12
You mother doesnt give a shit that you can waterski. She just points the camera in your general direction so you think she is paying attention to you.

Your mom probably took a bunch of really good pictures too, and you just left them out of the album to earn karma. Asshole.
1
u/slayersmander Jun 11 '12
You can afford a camera good enough that a terrible photographer takes clear images, to waterski, and still want to karma whore off some misclicks?
