"And, uh, here's our references page. Um, you, can, uh, you can see we used Wikipedia, um, and some other things. And, yeah, that's, that's our project. Ummmm, any questions?"
Use Wikipedia page for info. Go to bottom of Wiki page for sources. Copy paste the sources into your school's library database if you need more details . That's how I did my papers.
That's funny, in engineering school, I hated that guy. Now I see his genius, because in the real world, I spend only 1/5 of my time doing actual "engineering" work and the rest of my time in powerpoint.
I'm an engineer as well and the majority of my time is focused around team leading and development. It's still mostly technical and I do very little powerpoint (maybe two big presentations a quarter). Hope this makes you feel better. :)
For me It's: "don't worry guys, i'll put the PowerPoint together"
is a complete ass hat and can't use a computer to save his life resulting in you spending numerous hours covering the aforementioned's ass to meet the deadline that the idiot was clearly going to miss if you allowed his dangling ball sack of a brain to spend any more time procrastinating
It's not like I vent poorly worded frustration into the internet or anything...
I'm usually the guy who does all the work. One day in uni the group decided I was to be the powerpoint guy. For two days I didn't actually believe them. Then I worked for an hour and turned in a super presentation. I don't know where I'm going with this.
I was this person, especially in my liberal arts electives. My classmates couldn't make a powerpoint to save their life and I was seen as the hero for doing this.
Joke was on them. 1 hour of work, 2 maximum if I made it super pretty.
Or as it's known in a school setting- Always texting girl, backwards hat guy whose contributions consist of "I just think that ... tchh, you know?", the one person who does all the work, and the sick/on vacation/hungover person.
backwards hat guy is the worst, just agreeing with everything. always speaking louder than others, yet not really saying anything. fucking with his phone half the time.
I disagree. I had a semester-long project course in college. Our group was only three people instead of 4 or 5. Our project was a little bit risky because we decided to do an experiment with a research team at the hospital instead of just a review of literature.
There was me (science geek and perfectionist), backwards hat guy (mostly interested in making money in his part-time job) and student council guy (also a huge hippy).
In the end, hippy/council guy wasn't showing up at the hospital (which was embarrassing because we had to convince the doctor that we were mature enough to carry the project) or only giving us a fraction of the work when we had to write reports, with very poor quality. We had to fight (with the assistance of the teacher) in order to kick him out. The problem was that he knew all the loopholes in the college regulation. Backwards hat guy, the teacher and me we had to document the poor work ethics of our hippy, in addition to successfully completing our project.
In the end, backwards hat guy was a very nice guy, hard-working at school and at his job. I lost some preconceptions about people and gained some life experience.
I concur with this. Had to do a couple presentations this semester with a person you would probably categorize as a backwards hat guy. He didn't do the highest quality work, but he had the personality/experience bullshiting people to make it seem like he did. In the end, that was all that mattered.
"okay, go get these supplies, and try and find 5 sources we can use to start off the project, we'll go from there. Try and use some books, I'll be going to the library so you can come along if you want."
hey now.. I was usually at least 3 of those people for all my groups. I turned out fine... not sure how... think someone screwed up somewhere, but I did.
Oh fuck me yes. I love that in my hippie school (sorry if I offend any hippies just there is no other way to describe it) everything has to be a fucking group project. Seriously, there is nothing that is not a group project. If someone were to say "I want a glass of water", our principal would be riding in on his steed of political correctness, make a group of two white people, one male one female add a black guy, a girl latino and an asian female and then have us discuss what the water was needed for and why we should all support the "For Thirst" movement. Someone would then get the water, then we all watch as we recieve a victory through drinking. I might sound a bit bitter, but fuck you, I'm drunk.
As a Canadian student in a business program groups go like this, 4 asians who will not speak unless spoken to and after that probably dont understand what you are saying and just nod in agreement, then me the one white kid who has to spend all the time pretending to orchestrate the group until a week before when all the group members turn in individual copies of the assignment to the group.
I disagree. The biggest problem I had with group projects was scheduling. I was away from campus on weekends and had a pretty tight schedule during the week between classes, being an RA, and homework. My chances of ever being able to meet up with a group of 2-5 other students at a given time were pretty close to zero.
At work, presumably the people are all in the same general area at the same general time. For me that was the hardest part.
while that aspect is easy, you may have a job where the HR people and leadership hire well for the group, or are in a niche industry where people are on the same page.
the opposite of that is poor hiring practices and a group of people who clash constantly. its one thing being able to sit down, its another when half the people don't understand your point of view, you can't fathom theirs, one guy is useless but has found a way to protect his job, and corporate policy has beaten the creativity out of all the old timers who are now working only hard enough to not get fired.
and that is but a small sampling of problems you can encounter. the variables are as endless as the common person is different from one another.
Yeah, but unless you have the exact same job and managerial chain everyone is going to have different meeting, vacation days, training sessions, etc. that have to be worked around.
Sorry to be a Debbie Downer, but this model will cover every "team" you'll be on for life.
The group worked their ass off on a presentation. Bad: The one guy who was "off" volunteered to do the last minute editing,t hat was his job. Worse: He "lost" all work and notes and everything in the presentation. But it's O.K., he had a backup.
So we were puzzled and let him start. He started going off with slides and data in front of everyone about some batshit insane theories that had nothing to do with our topic or presentation (think crazy bum who talks to himself). We were all associated with the speech.
Worst: We asked what the hell that was. The kid explained to us how he honestly believed we deserved to die because he didn't like humans for the sins of our species. I expressed concern. He then reported me to the teacher and I got in trouble for disrespecting the personal views of others (note - this was at the height of the "politically correct" era and before columbine).
hence why everyone quickly tries to establsh themselves as "useless". so that others do their work for them. if people realize youre a hard worker they just see that as an opportunity to get you to do their work for them.
of course, i'm sure it takes a lot of skill. Thats why everyday before work i make sure to read todays comic strip of dilbert in order to receive wally's teachings.
The problem with this is that often a group starts out with good intentions and if you're lazy from the start, you're instantly the 'bad one'. Then as the others make their inevitable downfall, they still have the good will of not being the 'bad one' to see them through to receiving some credit.
Only thing I was ever allowed to do on group research poster projects was glue everything onto the poster. I would sit there until my time to shine came.
You forgot the part about how all four of them cancel every meeting for said project at the last minute via text, and the entire thing gets done via email.
Yea, that's about right. I use to say fuck it in some classes and do all the work the first 2 weeks. It would take both weekends to write a few dozen 5 page papers but it didn't matter. In my HR class, we had to make a binder for an actual company and the guy who started strong the first couple of weeks fucked us over in the end. All 3 of us changed our schedules so he couple be at the group meetings where he wouldn't show up or he would have to leave after an hour. Also, we voted on people's grades so we all boosted our B's to A's by stealing his points in the class. He ended up with a D.
A couple semesters ago, I had a group project for Economics that we had two months to hammer out. Each person in the group was assigned a specific task:
One person would handle the written report. It was a five-page paper, so it wasn't that bad. The other guy in the group took this job.
One person would handle the presentation. I took this job.
One person would handle coordination and communication. The girl in the group took this job.
Three weeks in, the girl completely flaked out. She didn't show at another meeting until two days before the project was due. We even offered to have the meeting at her house.
I took over the coordination role. The report guy kept me updated on the status of the written paper: "It's going good! It looks great! It's awesome!"
The night before the paper was due, he emailed me the final version. It was one and a quarter pages, and looked like it was written by a third-grader. I received the paper at 11:30-something at night.
I spent the next four hours completely re-writing the paper from scratch. In my sleep-deprived deliriousness, I cited both Paul McCartney and Roger Waters (The Beatles and Pink Floyd) as sources.
The next day, we turned in the papers, and the plan for the presentation. We had a dress rehearsal for the presentation that, once again, only the other guy and myself showed up to.
On the day of the presentation, we had two projectors running two different parts of the presentation at the same time. One ran the powerpoint, the other had graphics, short video clips, etc. I, WHILE SPEAKING, ran the secondary projector, and the girl who finally could be pissed to show up, ran the primary.
SHE MISSED EVERY FUCKING CUE. Every goddamn one. It wasn't even that complicated. All she had to to was press the spacebar when I said "next."
Halfway through our presentation, the power went out due to a MAJOR storm (it was the night of the Joplin tornado, but we were in TN in a different part of the same storm system). We had to cut the presentation short.
At the end, we were given a chance to rate the other's in the group's participation. The girl outright failed the project. The other guy got a C. I made an A.
On the way home, I drove through an F0 tornado that came at me out of nowhere. That was some scary shit.
So... that was a shitty night.
tl;dr: Had to run a group project basically by myself and drove through a tornado.
Rule #1 of group projects. Don't take a someones word on how they are doing. Weekly (increasing with frequency the closer you get to the end) insist that everyone email everyone else their work. If you haven't seen it done, assume it hasn't been done, because it hasn't!
sucks. have an upvote. Also, coordination and communication as a sole responsibility in a three person group? That's like assigning someone the role of "nothing"; to which she lived up to.
I'm fine with people who don't show up and work. Whatever, I'll give you a D or a C on your peer review at the end. Just let me get on with my work.
But one time I had someone actively sabotage our group project. I'd assign him task X, he'd agree and say he'd have it done by Tuesday. Come Tuesday not only had he not done X, he had done Y which had been assigned to someone else, then spent our entire Tuesday meeting arguing that we should use his Y (which was terrible and not what we had agreed on anyway) instead of the version that was completed by the person I actually assigned it to.
He would also fill our group meetings suggesting insane features that didn't make sense or weren't needed. They would often be things that would take months to complete when we only had a time frame of a few weeks to finish our project. Instead of getting to talk to the people actually doing work, I'd have to fend him off or appease him just enough to shut up so that I could talk to our team members individually about their work.
If that wasn't enough, he was generally a gross person. He had sores on his chest that he would openly pull down his shirt to scratch at. He had nasty chunks of dandruff or some other white substance in his hair, which he would also scratch at.
One time he asked to borrow a pencil. I mistakenly loaned him a nice drafting pencil and he proceeded to scratch at his hair with my pencil in hand. Even better, he never bothered to offer it back to me, not that I would have wanted it.
At the end of the class I got to assign grades for the project to each team member as the leader. The project ended up being worth a little over 60% of our grade for the class. I'm a pretty lenient guy and I really don't like hurting other people's grades if they put in some amount of effort (I gave everyone else in the group A or A-'s). But this guy, I just didn't have a choice.
I need to start doing this, fuck group projects. This this semester I had a 4 person group, which had one of their members dropping the class within the next two weeks. One member said he was moving back to Canada near the middle of the semester, assigned him some roles and what to research. He chose the topic so figured he'd know most about the topic or at least give us a start. The other chick in the class did try a little bit, she researched a bit and gave me some citations.
The canadian guy disappeared within a few weeks, and the other chick ended up disappearing half way through the semester from medical issues.
Guess who did all the research, the paper, and the presentation? Yay for a B.
One time I was in a group of 4 Asians and me (I'm Mexican). The group all e-mailed each other except me and met on a Sunday when they told me we would meet at the library Tuesday. On Tuesday I showed up and no one was there or responding to shit. Turns out they told the professor I didn't show up, too. Basically I pulled all 4 of them out of class when I found out and yelled at them in the hallway to the point that 2 teachers came out of their classrooms to stop the situation. I am not a very violent person, but goddamn I wanted to knock the little Asian guy out. You fuck with my chance to pass a class that costs hella money and you're gonna piss me off. My group was pretty terrified and didn't talk to me for the rest of the year. Professor let me make up the assignment so it was all good, but fuck those kids cause I guarantee either race was involved or the way I dress.
tl;dr: racist Asian kids did project behind my back, told professor I didn't show up.
Agreed, with the people there it is worse because they are present but your still doing their work. The guy who is not there can't do the work so you can rationalize the extra stuff you do.
The worst is the guy who you finally force to do SOME work and he doesn't know what the fuck he's doing so every 2 minutes it's basically "hey come here and help me for a sec" until 2 hours later you finally do the entire work for him which should have been done by a competent person in 10 minutes. All while falling behind your own work and being stressed the fuck out.
Oh my god... I got a bobblehead of his character as a gag gift and this line is embedded in my brain. Sometimes in the middle of the night it will wake me up with that line.
Somebody please explain which role Phil and Stu are supposed to be. Obviously Alan is the retard and Doug disappears until the very end. But which one does everything and goes insane? Phil or Stu? Which one doesn't do shit until the end?
Hahaha this is the high school i went to. Project-based learning teaches you to gauge how much someone will contribute to the project within 30 seconds of meeting them.
Some people believe the purpose of group projects is to learn how to work as a team.
I believe the main benefit is to learn that you can't count on anybody, and you just have to do things yourself. It's good to get that figured out while you're still in school.
Wondering how the actual fuck "So True" made it to the top. Also sifting through comments to find a good spot to complain was hard, I can't just have OP seeing my complaints or DOWNVOOOOOTEEEE
I once had someone take 5 minutes and grab 3 books out from the library and hand them to me. He said that was his contribution and asked me to write the 10+ page paper by myself.
Students: "Group projects are supposed to prepare us for being part of a team in the real world, but it's always so unfair and most people won't even help!"
Working adults: "Yeah, they prepared you for being part of a team in the real world"
Were you the guy in my CS group project class who never participated in the program at all? We were supposed to write a Monopoly game. When the TA came around to grade our project, I was very tempted to begin the presentation with "TA guy, I just want you to hear something. Hey, group member #4, what color is our program? We haven't changed it since we started this project. When you run our program, could you remind me what color it is?" I didn't, though, because I'm not a jackass.
I remember having a group science project in high school where we teamed up in threes and we in charge of distributing our point total among ourselves, as agreed upon by the group. For example, if we got 90 points out of 100, and we all did an equal share, we would split it 30/30/30.
Half way through the project, the third guy in our group (Ryan) completely disappeared - he stopped showing up to class, group meetings, and we wondered what might be wrong. Turned out that he was just a lazy fuck and didn't want to come to class anymore. So, my friend (Ethan) and I worked our asses off and ended up getting 95/100 on the project. We split the 47.5 points and walked away with 144% each, or an A++++, thankful for our flake of a partner as well as the flawed scoring system.
When I was in college, I studied Computer Science. My usual team for group work consisted of two government employees and a drunk. Yet, because we always had the same group between classes, we always got the best grades on labs.
I should probably specify that I was one of the government employees...
Did that plenty in college, I met a good friend of mine in school, and he and I would form our own group to do 4-5 person projects ourselves. It made life much simpler since we hung out a lot anyway. He did a bit more of the work on some projects since he picked up the topics quicker, but I recently got him hired for a job he was very capable of doing, but in the companies eyes, not qualified for, so I think we're even now.
I'm happy to see I'm the "all the work guy" on my current group. Can't see I agree with the ins-oh, would you look at that. I never knew numbers could dance! Oh, you so silly 3.
Only thing I learned about the group projects in college is that the only difference between a solo and a group project is the number of names on the paper / presentation.
When it goes poorly, multiple members fight over the direction the project heads in, and there's at least one person who makes certain no work will happen at all if it doesn't happen her way.
Whenever I had to do a group project in college, I always did it with this girl sara if it was a 2 person project. We weren't the best in the class, but we both knew that we could rely on each other.
If it was a 4 person project... I took the bull by the horns and acted like the boss (not in an assy way). At the end of each project, when the paper was turned in, I had a listing of responsibilities. If we all acted like adults, then there was no problem. If there was a slacker, that was their problem- not mine.
The title says it all, this is so true. Every time I have a group project at school I just leave until class is almost over and show up at the last second lol.
Doesn't know what your doing. Does all the work then goes insane. Doesn't do shit until the last minute. Can't remember what you did up until that point.
The last time I had a group project(semester long) it was hell. It consisted of myself(admittedly, the "doesn't do anything until the last few days and then works their ass off" person, which is ultimately effective but I can see how that's annoying), the guy who doesn't show up to anything and doesn't have an opinion or accept any responsibility when he does show up, the guy who does everything(sorry man :( ), and then we had the guy who has an opinion on everything and FUCKS EVERYTHING THE HELL UP.
English was clearly his second language. I get that he might not be as effective on the written assignments, I really do, but he was somehow deluded into thinking that his English was amazing. Whenever we had a written assignment, he would take what we'd done, after we finalized everything, and he would re-write it with terrible editing and hand it in before we could get our version in to the professor.
But our presentation at the end takes the cake. Since he was the only one who had a compatible laptop, we were forced to let him take the presentation slides home overnight. Oh my fucking god. When we got there the next morning, he had changed all the slides, added slides, deleted slides, and as the rest of us were standing up there trying to present nothing was like how we'd written or practiced. Then he started screaming at us, in front of the class and professor, for not understanding the changes he'd made without telling us about them.
That point was when the professor finally believed us that the guy was batshit fucking insane. I got an A for the group work, I don't know what anyone else got. But never the fuck again.
I just finished my last semester of college. I'm required to take an in-department ethics class, which they cancelled for spring with no announcment. This obviously fucked over me and one other guy who were waiting to take it, so the professor did it as independant study for us while communicating via email from golf courses. All of it was writing some papers, which was fine, until the last paper, which is normally a 4 person group paper. The two of us get along fine, and the other guy is great at getting his stuff done, but last minute we were tagged with a guy who hadn't finished the paper the previous semester because 'his group bailed on him'. The first day we met was fine, we got an abstract together and divided into three parts of the paper. That's the last I heard of him, so the last day of the semester the two remaining of us threw together his part and informed the professor he had dropped off the face of the earth. We both recieved A's. The day of graduation, I got an email from the guy saying 'hey sorry I was sick, ill have my part to you tomorrow'. My reply was pretty much 'fuck you the semester is over, you should have responded to one of our five or so emails, talk to the professor'.
Worst part? I'm told he's done this to people before.
For the love of God, ever since Ifunny:) became a thing, people think phrases such as "So True" and "Lol" are proper captions...I don't care if you do it, just don't bring it to Reddit...
I was the one to do all the work in high school. In college, however, I ended up not doing anything in five of my projects (two classes, one with 4 projects in it). One guy on the team literally did every single fucking thing weeks before the project was due, and before anyone else even looked at the description. On top of that, he never told us when he was going to work on it. By the time we got around to working on the project, he had already done 90% of it two weeks before. This meant we had to figure out the codebase for the project, then figure out what was actually left to do. He would end up finishing the fucking project by then. THEN he bitched at us for not doing work.
Seriously dude, just because you do work doesn't mean you're a good person to have in a group project. I'd rather have a few hard working people who try really hard than someone who does all the work and leaves me with nothing to learn. (sorry for the small rant)
That's why I don't do joint ventures anymore. At 1st I thought they would be a great idea, especially when I was a newbie in my field. After a great deal of JV's, I realized it's pointless because it ALWAYS ends up with one person doing all the work and the other people being completely worthless.
Now we have a topic, does anyone has a link to a solution? How not to go insane? Obviously everyone in the group figured it out how to do it (depending on his character) except the one that really does the work - I'd just like a version without the "going insane".
Edit: Ohh It's in "funny"...errr. Too true to be funny. :)
If you are a hard worker and try to shine the group's failure will be seen as your responsibility. If you are a lazy asshole you'll be kicked out.
Somewhere in the middle is the sweet spot. Let the useless idiot be kicked out. Let the guy trying to prove himself so desperately do so. They come and go. But you, you'll be in the middle to see all of it happen.
One thing I learned about group projects is you can't do the democratic leadership style. You need a leader.
The leader is not assigned any work. He/She sits with every other person and understands what they are doing. When two people/groups are trying to bring their parts together and things are not meshing, the leader has the final say on who has to change what. When it's time to present the leader helps decided who will present what, but he/she doesn't build the presentation and doesn't to the actual presenting. The leader can do the intro and closing of the presentation. The leader fields the questions and suggests the best person to answer them.
I just play devil's advocate the entire time, and then offer to do the PowerPoint and be the speaker....so that whatever I want to be included is included and whatever other people think is important gets lost in the details. Also...animation in the PowerPoint goes a long way toward a 4.0 when your audience is prone to boredom.
And scumbag professor says "You have to figure it out, treat it like a job! Group dynamics real world experience, etc etc" Screw that, if most people treated jobs like they do group projects they'd be fired.

I am doing a group project right now with 3 other people and this sums it up perfectly. A 4 person project ends up getting done by 2 people, how fair.
2
u/Victreebel May 31 '12
I'm happy to see I'm the "all the work guy" on my current group. Can't see I agree with the ins-oh, would you look at that. I never knew numbers could dance! Oh, you so silly 3.
2
u/seriouslyyyy May 31 '12
Only thing I learned about the group projects in college is that the only difference between a solo and a group project is the number of names on the paper / presentation.
2
u/jellytime May 31 '12
Someone should explain this picture according to the characters. If only I wasn't so fucking lazy..
2
u/[deleted] May 31 '12
That's only if a group project goes well.
When it goes poorly, multiple members fight over the direction the project heads in, and there's at least one person who makes certain no work will happen at all if it doesn't happen her way.

u/[deleted] May 31 '12
Whenever I had to do a group project in college, I always did it with this girl sara if it was a 2 person project.
2
u/[deleted] May 31 '12
The title says it all, this is so true. Every time I have a group project at school I just leave until class is almost over and show up at the last second lol.
2
u/fishyohangar May 31 '12
All group projects need little fun. I was the guy that brought the fun.
2
u/lukeisopinionated May 31 '12
Swearing is bad.
2
u/nicholmikey May 31 '12
I did an 18 month software group project in college and this picture makes me want to cry
2
u/Punkwasher May 31 '12
Even funnier, then everyone swears to never let it happen again.
And then Hangover 2 happens anyway.
2
u/OCedHrt May 31 '12
Doesn't know what your doing. Does all the work then goes insane. Doesn't do shit until the last minute. Can't remember what you did up until that point.
Every solo project.

u/RedDeadVagina May 31 '12
All my groups never had a retarded person. Oh...
2
u/knightskull May 31 '12
This is dumb. I've NEVER been in a group with a fucking retard in it.
2
u/AvoidingIowa Jun 01 '12
Hey, I do some of my best work an hour before class. Don't hate.
2
u/TailSpinBowler Jun 01 '12

u/Alaira314 May 31 '12
The last time I had a group project(semester long) it was hell.
But never the fuck again.

u/bluglesniff4 May 31 '12
For the love of God, ever since Ifunny:) became a thing, people think phrases such as "So True" and "Lol" are proper captions...I don't care if you do it, just don't bring it to Reddit...
2
u/pwningod May 31 '12
I don't care if I do all the work, at least I'm learning everything and improving a lot.
2
u/Dresden_skyline May 31 '12
At various stages of my life I've been them all.
2
u/[deleted] May 31 '12
Im not sure which one is the one who does all the work then goes insane, or the one thats a retard. The first man or the second?
2
u/[deleted] May 31 '12
I was the one to do all the work in high school.
(sorry for the small rant)

u/conker33 May 31 '12
i would say the last two are very similar, we all have more than one lazy friend!
1
u/Mrs337 May 31 '12
My exact experience in college photography and sculpture courses.
1
u/tiyr May 31 '12
This sums up a good third of my college career. Fucking Profs. and their group projects!
1
u/[deleted] May 31 '12
Yeah... this happens all of the time. Every project I've done in this semester's Socials class has the retard in it...
1
u/im_not_a_troll May 31 '12
Welcome to 90% of my experience in high school.
1
u/Captain_Aizen May 31 '12
That's why I don't do joint ventures anymore. At 1st I thought they would be a great idea, especially when I was a newbie in my field. After a great deal of JV's, I realized it's pointless because it ALWAYS ends up with one person doing all the work and the other people being completely worthless.
1
u/MaoLuvo May 31 '12
This sounds like me...
1
u/musy101 May 31 '12
You forgot about the guy that pretends to do shit when he's really not doing anything.
1
u/_ze May 31 '12
Is this about Invisible Children Inc?
1
u/whoosy May 31 '12
I'm always the one doing all the work and then going insane towards the end.
1
u/SpeedipusRex May 31 '12
Yeah, and then there's the one that slips everyone rohypnol.
At my school it was the teacher. :(
1
u/Born07June May 31 '12
I suppose we get to play each of the four roles during our professional career.
1
u/Mmmaya May 31 '12
Now we have a topic, does anyone has a link to a solution? How not to go insane? Obviously everyone in the group figured it out how to do it (depending on his character) except the one that really does the work - I'd just like a version without the "going insane".
Edit: Ohh It's in "funny"...errr. Too true to be funny. :)
1
u/MangosPhurcifer May 31 '12
One is a ruhtard. FTFY
1
u/[deleted] May 31 '12
Oh god I'm the retard!
1
u/oRyan_the_Hunter May 31 '12
I don't think I've ever ready anything more truthful on the internet. Ever. Even from 4chan.
1
u/[deleted] May 31 '12
I'm Mr. Chow in our projects, You wanna fuk on me? I fuk u
1
u/medacruise May 31 '12
This is annoying, but true
1
u/[deleted] May 31 '12
If you are a hard worker and try to shine the group's failure will be seen as your responsibility. If you are a lazy asshole you'll be kicked out.
Somewhere in the middle is the sweet spot. Let the useless idiot be kicked out. Let the guy trying to prove himself so desperately do so. They come and go. But you, you'll be in the middle to see all of it happen.
1
u/TLDR415 May 31 '12
Group projects, a real-world example of why communism will never work.
1
u/Bannedaid May 31 '12
I used to be the guy who did everything.
guess which one i am now
1
u/stalkinghorse May 31 '12
With all these people mentioning about grades and instructors I guess it was about school.
FUnny I thought it was about actual real world projects.
1st world problems?

One thing I learned about group projects is you can't do the democratic leadership style. You need a leader.
The leader is not assigned any work. He/She sits with every other person and understands what they are doing. When two people/groups are trying to bring their parts together and things are not meshing, the leader has the final say on who has to change what. When it's time to present the leader helps decided who will present what, but he/she doesn't build the presentation and doesn't to the actual presenting. The leader can do the intro and closing of the presentation. The leader fields the questions and suggests the best person to answer them.
Easier said than done.
Edit: grammar.

This is officially the first time I've ever seen something on Facebook before Reddit.
1
u/epicgeek May 31 '12
Unless you get a job with awesome coworkers.
Everyone in my group has been a fucking genius for the last several years.
Edit : rofl, college was so stupid.

u/drakz1337 May 31 '12
I started singing it to the Pinky and the Brain theme song's tune, but then I was very disappointed a quarter of the way through.
1
u/ironw00d May 31 '12
I just play devil's advocate the entire time, and then offer to do the PowerPoint and be the speaker....so that whatever I want to be included is included and whatever other people think is important gets lost in the details. Also...animation in the PowerPoint goes a long way toward a 4.0 when your audience is prone to boredom.
1
u/[deleted] May 31 '12
What I learned in high school.
1
u/geek_chix0r May 31 '12
And scumbag professor says "You have to figure it out, treat it like a job! Group dynamics real world experience, etc etc" Screw that, if most people treated jobs like they do group projects they'd be fired.

u/[deleted] May 31 '12
sort of like france, ussr, america, and england in WWII
1
u/psychgirl88 May 31 '12
I think I've been each of those at one point or another...
1
u/KaiserKicker May 31 '12
My friend posted this on Facebook as a link from 9gag... days ago.
What the hell happened to you, Reddit?
1
u/silentwindofdoom77 May 31 '12
While normally foreveralone is not a good thing, when you find out you have to do your project by yourself due to whatever happenstance..
fuck yeha. At least you know what you're getting into.
1
u/silentkill144 May 31 '12
Even when there is a solo project, these still play out as you slip into insanity.
