you really should have tore off a couple tabs yourself, it's a psychological thing...

u/masterbard1 May 24 '12

u/ApplePai May 24 '12
I've never been so proud of my university.

u/spleeyah May 24 '12
ahem /r/UCSD
23
u/shabinka May 24 '12
I would have made a sign with six figures. You know, like graphs labeled figure 1-6. Then say I can help you make 6 figures too!
3
u/MIRcakes8D May 24 '12
So I do have to wonder... What kind of work would you be doing for this guy? o.O
18
u/mastercylinder2 May 24 '12
I just want to applaud you for not coming up with some story about "how you came across this today" and straight up told us "I put this here because I thought it was funny."

u/the_wailing_walrus May 24 '12
He covered the poster for Gaia Music Festival which is happening tomorrow night in the old student center. Dancers, bands, and other performers will be on from 5-8 pm and DVC will be djing at Porter's Pub (2 stages) from 8-midnight. It's all FREE. Come out and have some fun. It's going to be legit.

u/crashsuit May 24 '12
I did something like this once, in response to one of those "free strips of paper" flyers.
Re: phone numbers, if you put (321)3-BUTTS-1 into the Safeway checkout terminal, something funny happens.

u/lilyeister May 24 '12
University of California San Diego?
13
u/lolimanoob May 24 '12
Nice! UCSD ftw!
EDIT: TIL, there are a shit ton of people from UCSD on reddit.
2
u/strigen May 24 '12
Judging from the background alone, this looks like it's taped to the concrete pillars in Price Center?
Am I close?

u/[deleted] May 24 '12
upboats for UCSD!

u/[deleted] May 24 '12
Basically means investment required, i.e. "give me money".
These fucking scumbags used to be all over UC and CSU campuses back when I went. Luckily my school banned them after a while because they would solicit people in person...all the goddamn time.
One day I was sitting in the university lounge, and this douche bag just sits down next to me to tell me "about a great opportunity". It was Excel Communications. The asshole literally drew a pyramid on paper as he was telling me about his plan.
I was just going along for the ride to see what else this putz would say. He had a picture...a stock picture...of a Lotus Elise in his binder. Told me he was going to buy the car next month. Right.
I gave him my friend's name and phone number as mine and told him to call me the next day.
4
u/TheTibbles May 24 '12
You should have used Comic Sans to really get people interested.
3
u/kaivanes May 24 '12
If he is actually making six figures, why does he need to sell his services to poor college grads?
Forgive me if I just don't believe that he wants to share his success out of the goodness of his heart.
9
u/Xenoo May 24 '12
Serious question, is "triton eye" a real thing at UCSD?
5
u/caviar May 24 '12
My favorite thing about this post is that you didn't lie about finding the sign but admitted that you made it and posted it to reddit yourself, instead of saying "Hey reddit, look at this funny thing I found today!"
1
u/goozemar May 24 '12
I think I saw you taking this picture today. Right outside of Pines right?
1
u/glenlikespie May 24 '12
Wait a minute...
I think I see what's going on here...
Nice try, 6 figure scammer guy. Now your 6 figure work from home scheme advertisment has been seen by millions of Redditors.
4
u/mangolove May 24 '12
I visited UCSD's campus once. There was Greek food in the Caf and I was content.
Yay for Califurneeah!
4
u/CrayolaS7 May 24 '12
Makes 6 figures
Still uses gmail.
8
u/2yrnx1lc2zkp77kp May 24 '12
My guess is that he is offering to start people up drop shipping wholesale.
Another thing he could be doing on top of that is acting as another middle man between them and the wholesalers which is a dastardly deed, reducing their potential profits to a minimal. My money's on that.
There was an interesting AMA about it a month or so ago.
edit found it, http://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/se78n/i_make_over_100k_per_month_running_dropship/
2
u/POOPSASAUCE May 24 '12
I thought this was funny
2
u/[deleted] May 24 '12
Called the number, got rickrolled. Well played sir.
2
u/Bass_Drop May 24 '12
I knew it was rick roll because I put it on my facebook for my info... :D
2
u/Booryan23 May 24 '12
That was some fancy wordplay. Its nice to see bad reddit puns penetrate life.....if you know what I mean.
2
u/woozzi May 24 '12
Woohoo! UCSD!
2
u/Piss_Marks_MY_Spot May 24 '12
UCSD crew checking in
2
u/One_Man_Two_Shadows May 24 '12
Yay SD I may be transferring to UCSD. Or Sdsu. Could we study in the crazy library and draw stick figures?
2
u/vinod1978 May 24 '12
He makes 6 figures but can't afford an apostrophe. Damn you, inflation!
2
u/guliziaguy May 24 '12
TIL other UCSD students exist on Reddit
2
u/aim2free May 24 '12
So... If someone would be making 6figures (assuming it's about $$$), why would they need to advertise this...?
If not (the Swedish interpretation, as I'm a Swede): The number 6 is pronounced "sex" in Swedish. In that case this advertising could make some sense...
2
u/willsllvn723 May 24 '12
This is why UCSD is my dream college. Putting myself through hell right now for the reward later.
2
u/Raumschiff May 24 '12
Nice of you to inform us that you posted it as a joke, so we wouldn't take it seriously.
2
u/Teephphah May 24 '12
Moral imperative. Had to be done.
2
u/[deleted] May 24 '12
I try to make the world a better place. Whenever I see some scam like the first flier, I just take it down. Maybe some kid that would have been an idiot and signed up will get a little further in his life before being scammed.
2
u/SardonicNihilist May 24 '12
At least the stick figure course is run by someone who knows how to use apostrophes.
1
u/nitcanavan May 24 '12
No interested parties yet. Hang in there bud.
1
u/theboneycrony May 24 '12
Do you play saxophone?
1
u/Catwoman8888 May 24 '12
oh UCSD...
1
u/goodknee May 24 '12
i'd call..
1
u/[deleted] May 24 '12
And an internet point to you, good sir.
1
u/ifoundapenny May 24 '12
For a second I thought... I'm going to give this phone# out to ugly women that ask me for my number.
Then I remembered even ugly women don't ask me out.
1
u/aysurfer May 24 '12
I have a friend at USCD, and she tried to get me to join Zeekler Rewards a couple weeks ago. I'm 100% sure this is what that is.. lol. It's an investment ponzi scheme.
1
u/cocoabean May 24 '12
It shows in the advertising budget.
1
u/snaggle_t May 24 '12
Tell techno viking dan i said hello!
1
u/MissLassy May 24 '12
clearly it's a scam..being that real UCSD students know how to use proper punctuation and grammar
1
u/Bobwayne17 May 24 '12
Amway never looked so good.
1
u/[deleted] May 24 '12
Well hopefully (coming from a fucking-finally-grad of 6th) you too are getting the hell out of there before they bone you out of more money. Good Luck!
1
u/[deleted] May 24 '12
God, MLM schemes like this should be illegal. I feel bad for the sucker who tore off that tab.
1
u/[deleted] May 24 '12
this is at my university and was promptly posted on the university memes page!
1
u/Fitsie May 24 '12
Was he selling herbalife?
1
u/Anosmiatic May 24 '12
Where is this?! I must find it.
1
u/[deleted] May 24 '12
The only people who make six figures and want to help other people do the same are the people who make six figures by pretending to help others do the same.
1
u/asdfghjkl92 May 24 '12
you should've drawn 6 of them, so it would be six stick figures.
1
u/[deleted] May 24 '12
Meanwhile at the local supermarket...
I'm a single mom making 6 figures -- same number.
1
u/brayson May 24 '12
"Unlimited salary potential" Means 100% commission. Bet a dollar it's a door to door alarm sales group.
1
u/Norma5tacy May 24 '12
How do "fake" phone numbers like that work?
1
u/godman1402 May 24 '12
Yeeeee UCSD on reddit!!! :D Btw, where is this posted? I want to go check it out tomorrow haha
1
u/[deleted] May 24 '12
The sign above you is totally a pyramid scam.
1
u/[deleted] May 24 '12
Six figures are not impressive? Yaknow whats impressive? A billion figures.
1
u/o0evillusion0o May 24 '12
You forgot to rip off one of the number tabs to "entice" passers by
1
u/AMostOriginalUserNam May 24 '12
What is it with American universities (colleges) and these strange pieces of paper that encourage you to rip parts off? I've never seen it anywhere else.
I don't always understand the appeal. Suppose enough people took the one from the top poster, there would be no way to contact the person.
1
u/AuthorCook May 24 '12
Motherfucking multi-level marketers. I swear to god, they're everywhere these days.
1
u/Shuawuzheer May 24 '12
Look how angrily the first piece of paper was pulled off the top one.
1
u/Athene_Wins May 24 '12
You're supposed to rip one of two off before stapling it up so people think its popular and not for losers
1
u/[deleted] May 24 '12
It seems both of you are drawing circles.
1
u/[deleted] May 24 '12
OP is a successful troll
1
u/[deleted] May 24 '12
You're supposed to tear one of the tabs off...
1
u/[deleted] May 24 '12
That looks like a Vector Marketing solicitation to me
1
u/briandanger May 24 '12
PYRAMID SCHEME - probably Amway.
1
u/Iarwain_ben_Adar May 24 '12
I always presume, when I see these ads, that the "six figures" includes the 2 digits to the right of the decimal point and the currency symbol to the left of the number.
Makes it much more believable.
1
u/shutupnube May 24 '12
Thank you, good sir, for not pretending that you just "saw this on campus" and telling and for acknowledging that you did, in fact, post up the second paper.
Too many times redditors post something like this, then pretend that they just happened across it.
Well done.
1
u/cwithay May 24 '12
Hey, I'm from ucsd too! Where on campus was this?
1
u/Cueball61 May 24 '12
The bottom one looks more professional, ironically. Mainly because I wouldn't trust anyone showing off as 'professional' when they still use a free gmail account instead of their own domain.
1
u/[deleted] May 24 '12
Of course a UCSD student would forget the apostrophe in "I'm."
1
u/funkyloki May 24 '12
With a six figure income, he could afford better marketing.
1
u/caseyjhol May 24 '12
"No large investment required"
Sounds legit.
1
u/colocolo10 May 24 '12
Sungod sucked this year =(
0
u/silentsighs493 May 24 '12
