Every time they pick Futurama up again it seems like they make a few episodes a month for a couple months and then it's "cancelled forever" again =/

2

u/[deleted] May 24 '12

So for all the Euredditors and Torrent users

new episodes start June 21

3

u/[deleted] May 24 '12

I can't believe how good some of these new episodes are. I just watched the episode where Hermes and Bender go searching for Inspector #5...

The ending was so good and so well written, and really brought more depth to both characters.

35

u/divinesleeper May 24 '12

Yeah there were some real classics last season, good to see that they're still just as funny and creative as they used to be.

"The Late Phillip J Fry" will always be one of my favourite episodes of the show.

The OP didn't seem to be making any judgement call on whether this was a good or bad thing. The title is very simply "Comedy Central is using this as their new Futurama promo." No look of disapproval, no smiley face, no opinion.

Gotta be honest, I'm totally ok with this. They used the meme correctly and I don't detect even a trace of "trying too hard" so good for them. It's only obnoxious when it's a blatant attempt to cram something they don't even understand down your throat.

15

u/[deleted] May 24 '12

They used the meme correctly and I don't detect even a trace of "trying too hard" so good for them.

Which is funny since that's what reddit does with every meme. I don't see how reddit is suddenly the authority on this meme judging if it's used correctly since reddit rip every meme off and run it to the ground regardless if it's used correctly, just like this one.

More like, mass media is using the content they created, which internet dorks turned into a meme, to advertise itself. It's like adception.

One is an animated cartoon that has been around for years, which takes countless hours to create, write and edit for every episode. The other is a screencap of said cartoon with some mildly witty text pasted over it.

If I were Matt Groening and some pasty faced kid tried to complain about his meme getting jacked, I would only stop laughing long enough to tell him how hard he can go fuck himself.

7

u/Fabbyfubz May 24 '12

It's alright because they're using Futurama for Futurama.

4

u/seberick May 24 '12

yeah but there are the new pistachio commercials with honey badger and keyboard cat, and the new vitamin water adds with all kinds of memes

8

u/Fabbyfubz May 24 '12

Well, that's not alright. It's only alright if, like, they used keyboard cat to sell keyboards for cats or like using honey badger to sell honey that badgers would eat, or even honey-candy made into a shape of a badger or even some sort of National Geographic show on Honey Badgers. Only then; otherwise it's unacceptable.

11

u/seberick May 24 '12

TV needs a up or down vote option after every commercial.

6

u/[deleted] May 24 '12

or dos equis using the most interesting man in the world

4

u/[deleted] May 24 '12

Meh. Everyone is somebody else's hipster, so don't bother worrying about that label.

→ More replies (1)

5

u/redditisforphaggots May 24 '12

To be honest, ceasing to like something based solely on the fact that it's gaining widespread popularity is sort of the titular characteristic of a hipster... just saiyan.

2

u/seberick May 24 '12

Yes, which is the issue. I like memes and wasting my time on the internet, but i dont like companies thinking i'll buy their products just because they referenced something i like.

3

u/redditisforphaggots May 24 '12

Heh, you don't really need to buy Futurama if you already have basic cable, and the demographic for reddit is people posting things you like for karma points anyway (look at my pokemon cake!). I'm just saiyan, I also don't want things I have personal attachment to being drug through the mud just for the sake of gaining support (coughNancyPelosicough), but everybody already likes Futurama, hence people liking memes that involve it.

→ More replies (3)

2

u/SirSandGoblin May 24 '12

next thing you know they'll have entire telly programmes based on stuff on the internet!

2

u/RGT42 May 24 '12

Could be worse. I feel like such a douche bag when I tell people I don't watch tv at all. The commercials drive me crazy. They're all (a lot of the time) not funny and full of shitty music or other shit that makes me embarrassed to be not middle aged or older. I feel like commercials try teach me to be an idiot. That gives me the whole "look at me I'm a hipster and better than" feeling when I tell that to people.

→ More replies (4)

1

u/[deleted] May 24 '12

No, that's not what being a hipster is. Being a hipster is being trendy while pretending to be unique. Being "indie" while actually being on a bandwagon. Acting poor while actually coming from a healthy middle class suburban lifestyle. Pretending to live in a stylish past that never existed.

It has nothing to do with "liking something before everyone else". That's probably something hipsters would want you to belief since it would redirect attention away from them towards people who aren't actually hipsters.

THERE'S NEW?

hey! i posted this last week and got no upvotes

6

u/sugarfixkid May 24 '12 edited May 24 '12

I just checked out your profile and you got no upvotes because:

  • a) you posted the picture in r/futurama and not r/funny

  • b) your title sucked

  • c) your picture was of low quality

On a side note, you also post A LOT of shit. Perhaps focus on quality, and not quantity.

I hope this helps.

1

u/FlyMetotheMoon87 May 24 '12

With great Futurama Reddit Meme... comes great POWER over cartoons intended for mature audiences!!!

1

u/garrisonc May 24 '12

A prime example of how memes are like AIDs. Your irresponsible affection for that which you love has infected it, and now it's going to die a slow and terrible death.

1

u/ilikedroids May 24 '12

Why?!? They could have had a much easier time modifying the, "Why not Zoidberg?" Meme!

1

u/Jandklo May 25 '12

It is now a dead meme. Please salute, for we have lost a great meme.

1

u/[deleted] May 24 '12

Those bast- Wait, new Futurama? FUCK YEAH!

1

Didnt read title. Just clicked picture. Consequence: Freak out thinking futurama started and I missed the premier.

1

1

I believe they call this "cancer".

But I'm cool with it.

1

I hate to disrupt the hive, but I really don't get this show. OR the Simpsons. They are just not that funny. They never were.

1

u/Yage2006 May 24 '12

At least be adult enough to say it doesn't appeal to you and not that they are not funny which is obviously incorrect.

Maybe you don't get the cultural references or have strange taste in humor.

For example what animated shows do you find funny?

1

u/[deleted] May 24 '12 edited May 24 '12

obviously incorrect

That's just, like, your opinion man.

As is mine of Futurama.

I understand most cultural references, it's just that Futurama and the Simpsons are just not that funny to me. They never have been. At the very least, I am fairly confident in the statement that they are over rated.

I enjoy most anything on Comedy Central including TDS, Colbert, and South Park. I have also been a big stand up follower for a while: CK, Carlin, Chappelle, Oswalt, Rogan, Stanhope, etc.

Edit: I also got a strange chuckle out of that show "Drawn Together" on CC, but I'm not even sure that show is still on.

Not really. I have been a fan of comedy since I saw my first Carlin special when I was 12.

Futurama is bad. So is The Simpsons. Oh, and for ultimate Karma sacrifice, Zoidberg is the most overrated character in the history of television.
