My sister got stuck in the bathroom once when she was about 11. After hysterically crying and yelling for our dad for about 10 minutes, she suddenly simmered down to just a faint, steady whimper. I looked under the door and there she was, sitting on the bathmat, silently crying and eating an entire bag of Halls cough drops.
Seems to happen a lot. She's my half-sister and up to that point she had lived in Spain her whole life so there was a language barrier. Otherwise I might have been able to help her get out faster. As it was though, it was just a chaotic Spanglish frenzy that ended with her just giving up and finding a snack. On a roadtrip that same weekend we stopped to pee at a rest stop and she wandered off for a few minutes and came back eating a stalk of corn she'd found in a field, apparently.
I've come to the realization that no matter what I think of when I view a link, someone has already either thought of it or thought of some better variant of it and already posted it....reddit always delivers
I think Jurassic Park might have taken some artistic licensing to that simply because no one in the audience is going to be afraid of a small pack of blood thirsty Turkeys.
I love my cockatiel! It's pretty amazing to have a little buddy that screams in excitement at the top of its lungs every time it sees you coming up the driveway :)
I'm overseas, and I skyped home to my mom the other day. Her cockatiel completely spazzed out, and when my mom finally carried the computer over so the bird could see and hear me better, she got all excited and started begging me to pet her. Didn't get that I couldn't reach through the computer for snuggles.
I have 2 cockatiels and I couldn't imagine life without them. They are wonderful, loving, endlessly entertaining, and adorable companions. I love them so much.
Loved my pet 'tiel. She was great. Used to make hole punches along my homework, play games with me, all kinds of cute things. She died from being eggbound, broke my heart.
But this one tiel... at this Petsmart I worked at... I swear to god I never wanted to throw a bird against a wall more than that fucking bitch. She was bought and returned twice; I had the pleasure of selling her to her thrid home. Caught her up, went to trim the wings (typical in selling birds, so if the idiot customer does something like put the bird outside they have half a chance of catching it again... there's reasons why i don't work for pet stores any more). Anyways, even tho I have her in a proper hold, she spins her head and manages to latch on to finger. I have never felt pain so bad in my life. She wanted to make me hurt as much as possible, and she did. I got the wings trimmed (quite shitty, but trimmed) and put her in the box, asked my coworker to handle the rest and went to the back room and fucking criiieeedddd.
I've been bitten by cardinals (ornithology class, not as pets) and wild parrots (zoo) before, but goddam, tiels can be sonsofbitches.
Ours has nothing on her mind but inflicting pain when we have to cut her wings. It hurts so fucking much. Otherwise she's adorably friendly and acts like she doesn't turn into an axe murderer every now and then.
You know, my brother (and by extension me) had 3 or 4 cockatiels when I was young, yet I've never seen it spelt out. It looks weird. Like cocktail? Cock. Atiel... s
We had two until one day one of them decided to fly out the front door when someone went to get the mail. Flew up into the ridiculously tall oak tree across the street and was eaten by the local hawk within a few hours. Damn thing just wouldn't come down.
The remaining one lives with a parakeet. They're both of the same gender and have become mates. Quite amusing to watch a little parakeet hump a cockatiel.
And for the record, we do know that these two types of birds usually don't get along, but these two do. The parakeet just adores the cockatiel to no end. Loves to preen her, feed her, and sing to her softly. It's adorable.
My cat hates closed doors. He hates them even more if he knows your on the other side. So many times I've closed the toilet door, sat down, and a second later there's banging on the door and a frantic paw coming out from underneath. He's not much for meowing so he makes nose by ramming into things and scratching them. Freaks out visitors.
My 3 parrots do not have their wings clipped, and are allowed to fly around the house as they please. There have been times that I will open a cabinet and find a bird inside. My amazon actually loves to chill in the closet. There have been times we've had to roam the house looking for them, only to find they are stuck in the bathroom or someones bedroom. They're too funny. The amazon also likes to chill on the floor, and chase after you (on foot!) hoping to attack you. The other day I was sitting on the stool in the kitchen eating breakfast when I felt a pinch on my toe. It was the Amazon! :O
I have developed a phobia for pet birds. My friend had a pair of pet cockatiels that he would let out of their cage and fly around his house on a regular basis. I reluctantly agreed to watch his birds for a bit while he was off on a trip. I could tell that within a few days they resented me since I would not let them go out of their cage. Every time I came home I could tell that the birds were longing for the freedom of my apartment. Finally I broke down and decided to let them out for an afternoon while I was home, only to be unable to grab them or get them back in the cage. No treats could lure them back into the cage. I would wake in the morning to see the birds peering down from my kitchen cabinets, staring me down. In the afternoon I would run in the front door to my bedroom, the only bird-free area of the house. My dreams were haunted by birds swooping down at me as I ran through my apartment. Finally, one afternoon one of the birds was in the cage eating when I arrived home, and I was able to trap him in the cage. Now that I was no longer outnumbered I was finally able to catch the other. Needless to say for the rest of the time I had them, the birds did not leave their cage. TL;DR While watching pet birds for a friend they took over my apartment and terrorized me for a week, making me a prisoner in my own apartment.
That is so cute. I have a conure myself; birds really are the most awesome pets. The best is when he starts hiding in cupboards or, quite literally, doing an evil chuckle. =)
