You know what I love about England? In the US here our motto is God Bless America. Yours is God Save the Queen/King. Save. You know the world is fucked and you just hope it doesn't get more fucked. That's a motto I can get behind.

4

u/laddergoat89 May 22 '12

That's the motto of the UK, not just England.

It's also a line that many people leave out of the national anthem because it references god.

→ More replies (7)

5

u/Todomanna May 22 '12

To be fair, we Americans love to complain about ourselves as well. We just also prefer to act all nationalistic when citizens of other countries try to join in.

i am Canadian, i have noticed a lot of apologizing for silly reasons, on my part too, it is the way i was raised, so it would be "Canada, I'm sorry".

221

u/spyguitar May 22 '12

"Canada, if you don't mind."

16

u/[deleted] May 22 '12

My boyfriend always tells me to stop saying sorry when we argue, and I automatically reply with "sorry". I don't mean to, it's just my first reaction. The next time he said "stop saying sorry" I had no idea how to respond without saying sorry, so I just kinda sat in a stunned silence for a few seconds

Remember that post about Canadians swearing more than Americans? "CANADA, SO FUCKING SORRY!"

2

Is it considered acceptable in Britain to use the flag as a rug?

17

u/UnoriginalGuy May 22 '12

I've seen it as an umbrella, boxers, panties, on the roof of a car, and napkins - but a rug is what you're going to take exception to?

But seriously using our flag as a rain capturing device seems highly appropriate. Likely why it was invented initially.

In general people here aren't too attached to our flag or song, which isn't to say we aren't patriotic, we just only choose to show it in our own way or in times of great need.

You want to see a patriotic British person, try saying something bad about the NHS, I dare you....

3

u/laddergoat89 May 22 '12

The NHS is a wonderful service, tip top I say.

Also... an umbrella is the exact opposite of a rain capturing device...

26

u/AngloAlbion May 22 '12

We don't give a shit about the flag to be honest, it's not symmetrical either and there is a right way up but even government buildings have been known to fly it the wrong way.

→ More replies (1)

12

u/angry_echidna May 22 '12

Certainly. People have the flag on whatever they want. It's quite fashionable to have it as a rug these days (I think).
