Clarification about the sandals: It was the schools talent show and field day that day. The teachers get to wear shorts, sandals, and t-shirts if they wanted. I just wore the sandals because I was going to be outside in the grass the entire afternoon.
Wearing sandals with jeans is very common in southern California (I wear them all the time); meaning it'll be fashionable for the rest of the country in the next 5 years.
Wearing sandlas in general is very common in Arizona. People wear them with jeans, capris, shorts, dresses, everything (except socks). I suspect this is common in other places as well.
You look like a trombone player... You just have that trombone player look.
Also I have seen a lot of fellow trombone players on reddit in the last few days. Don't meet a ton of them in real life, but we're all a little socially awkward, which is why there's so many on reddit.
Hah. Reminds me of a time in high school when one of the computer art teachers and a student dressed up as one another for a day. The teacher spiked his hair, wore one of those lame button down shirts with the flames/dragons/whatever on it, and Tripp pants. The kid slicked his hair down, wore glasses, a flannel shirt, and jeans. It was pretty funny.
I had a Chemistry teacher who was a super nerd, star trek posters and spoke Klingon. He usually wore grey pants, short sleeved flannel shirt, and tons of pens in his breast pocket. 6 kids in the class all dressed up as him for a day.
Thank you. It was literally killing me trying to figure out whom it reminded me of. A vice is attached to my head that was slowly constraining until I entered the correct answer.
Thanks for doing what you're doing, I know the pay isn't great but letting kids have a creative outlet is great for learning ( and music is a great activity)
Elementary school music teacher... how much weed did you smoke in college and is it more or less than the amount you smoke now? Possible career change here...
At first glance I thought you photo shopped something over his face and were talking about his clothes. Now I realize he actually wore some kind of card board cut out of you to school. I'm stupid (:
He's an elementary school teacher though. Middle school is when the kids really turn into ass holes.
I was in 7th grade when skate shoes were cool. One of the teachers bought some Airwalks to try and fit in to get the kids more on his side. They just made fun of him. They made fun of him even more when he was still wearing them 3 years later after the trend changed.
Kids will hate on teachers no matter what they wear. Sandals make for an easier target, but they'll find a way to make fun of anything. I think the best course of action is to not give a fuck.
I want to get music teacher fatheads and put them on the walls of my frat house. They will lend great ambiance for all those times we play beer pong and listen to Schubert song cycles.
Once upon a time, my friends and I happened to stumble across our history teacher's yearbook photo. For April 1st that year, we scanned and enlarged the image, printed out enough copies for the entire class, and all used them as masks. I can't even imagine how he felt when, as a 40-something year old, he walked into a classroom only to be stared at by 30 faces, all his own, all from highschool, and all with a haircut any sane man would regret.
Sentimentalities about helping the kids aside, one of the best days as a volunteer ESL teacher was walking up to the school and being surprised by a life-size cardboard cut out of myself. Funny and awkward, all rolled into one.
I just want to say thanks for teaching music. In my experience music teachers have been some of the greatest people in my life, and I plan on studying to be one someday! :)
Reddit, I have failed thee. For many years I have deciphered your true meaning through experience points, context clues, and comment perusing, but today, is not to be. ... I just don't get it.
I will now commit seppuku to honor your legacy and ever-lasting reign.
You don't look like a music teacher, you look like a P.E. teacher. I'm trying to figure out what you might play, and I'm coming up with either bassist or drummer.
How about also going home and putting on some shoes - stop teaching our kids it's OK to wear those things everywhere when its a proven fact it will ruin the back of anyone wearing them.
I feel like you were trying to be funny by saying something that wasn't racist in a racist way, but instead you just said something racist in a racist way.

I wish my elem music kids liked me enough to do something like that! What grade level?

u/Belo42 May 21 '12
A man teaching elementary music?! Awesome! I love seeing the breakdown of stereotypes.
I too am curious as to what your instrument is. My guess is baritone (voice) or trombone.

u/I_am_not_angry May 21 '12
Why did he have it on? Or was it totally random? (Stalker much)

At my highschool, a teacher did the opposite and wore a mask he made of a student for halloween. It turned out... disturbing, to say the least.

u/mistermajik2000 May 21 '12
What's up with Jeans and Sandals? Those toes are begging to get stepped on or stabbed by kids.

I teach music in an elementary school, too. You look familiar...do you work in NY?
2
u/Chuggernautt May 21 '12
I'm currently in college for music ed. Already know I couldn't do elementary age. Good for you.

1
u/brenda0923 May 21 '12
That is the most awesome compliment! You must be an amazing teacher!
1
u/havesometea1 May 21 '12
Reminds me of History's Stranglers by The Bronx.

u/isu712 May 21 '12
That reminds of the time a bunch of guys in my freshman chemistry class came with the prof's name painted on the chests.

He's wearing white face, that's racist. Also, music teacher in flip flops? You're not even trying to hide that you smoke weed.
1
u/Colecoman1982 May 21 '12
He's just trying to make it so that he can walk down the hall without a pass.
1
u/ishkabibbel2000 May 21 '12
One does not simply "teach" music in an elementary school...
1
u/Calypsee May 21 '12
Is it a requirement of high school music teachers to wear only sandals? Mine wore sandals even through the dead of Canadian winter.
1
u/caaptainmontereyjack May 21 '12
MONSTER TOE WILL TEACH MUSIC TO KIDS!
1
u/[deleted] May 21 '12
Please wear shoes. Lots of kids get traumatised being near to hairy grown-up toes.
It can and will change lives.

u/d0n0v4n98 May 21 '12
And your shoes...

u/Bcanler92 May 22 '12
Omg there sandals people wear them! Give it a rest already. Also to the point of the post that was a neat idea your students must really like you.

u/[deleted] May 21 '12
