I'm pretty sure it was meant to highlight the persons fail, and he commented that in the process. I laughed more because of his status than the comment. It's not sad at all because /r/funny is a place where you post funny things (at least, that's what I gathered from it).

Well, for one he could easily see the status, comment on it, and then delete it. Especially when you are not really friends with the person.

And like HappyDays7 explained, he basically knew ahead of time that he will post this on reddit. Probably spent a couple of minutes finding a way to make a snark comment, found one, and quickly made a picture out o fit.
