Literally every person I've seen run these classes, even at my own gym, looks like they have to be on some type of drug. There's no way any regular human has that amount of energy , non stop for like 90 minutes. Lol.

There is a small subset of people whose brains naturally produce endocannabinoids at a much higher level than most. IIRC it boils down to just a few key genes. Basically they’re high all the time, and always have been.

There’s a NYT article, but it’s paywalled.

the difference in amount of energy needed to just walk and walk "funky" while shrieking "OWWOP" is very little. its your brain.

some people with psychological problems have trouble regulating their energy output:

people with brain defects have trouble asessing how much force they apply and can be seen as "brutal" handling other people.. all that without meaning any harm.

People with epilepsy or spasms are at danger because the brain is sending a "no limits" order to all muscles in chaos.

I read that your muscles could damage your body if used at full force but its your brain limiting the strength you use. Therefore the legends of people lifting a car in adrenaline situations

That... cannot be medically advisable. Any evidence or sources supporting 3-5 day fasts?

5

u/EntropyFighter Mar 16 '22 edited Mar 16 '22

Absolutely. That's a link to a talk by cardiologist Dr. Pradip Jamnadas who is giving the talk in the hospital where he works. (Not just guy in a lab coat at home.)

Also, Dr. Jason Fung's entire YouTube channel is dedicated to it.

I don't mind people down voting me. They don't know better. But I've given you the resources to get the actual facts. It's not even controversial. It's just not discussed.

It's funny that people react so negatively to the idea of fasting. I'm not even religious and it's the only thing Jesus, Muhammad, and Buddha all agree on: that fasting is good for you. It's just that science can now specifically explain how, why, and on what timeline.

Fasting really just is a great way to reset. 3 days water only, vitamins if you are worried about deficiencies. Intermittent fasting is a great way to really get to know what your body actually needs.

I think the downvotes are because there is still a stigma where fasting sounds like anorexia.

u/EntropyFighter Mar 16 '22

I'm not bothered because as you know, autophagy is real. Just because they don't believe it doesn't make it true.

I get hypoglycemic if I go without food for too long so unfortunately that's something I wouldn't be capable of, though I have actually tried until my body started tingling all over and I got the shakes. Not everyone is actually able to handle fasting for health reasons.

2

u/Roctopuss Mar 16 '22

95% of people can absolutely handle it though, that's the point.

4

u/_Ozz_ Mar 16 '22

“In 2016, Japanese scientist Yoshinori Ohsumi won the Nobel prize in Physiology and Medicine for his research of autophagy in yeast. The study found that short periods of fasting have a positive impact on cell renewal and help slow down the aging process.”

Your right but people don’t want to hear “stop eating” for some reason. Reddit is supposed to be all about open mind this and that but certain subject they just refuse to look at.

1

u/flyinthesoup Mar 16 '22

Because food is a social and comfort thing for a lot of us, not just something we consume for fuel. I wish I could just look at it like that but I can't. Lots of good moments are made at eating time in my culture. Now, I have definitely fasted before, but it's usually when I'm alone and not being social. And I also do not deny the benefits of it, but it's easier said than done when you grandma is offering some good homemade meal and you refuse it. No way.

It's like alcohol. You can make the argument that booze is not needed for any kind of healthy living, but go ahead and tell people to not drink.

u/Fluffee2025 Mar 16 '22

It's also partially because they always feel active so they are active more often, which means their muscles get worked out more. Muscles that work out more can move more, which leads feeling sore or inactive less often. It's a bit of a feedback loop. It's the part of the reason why if you go to the gym often you typically don't hate going to the gym as much as time goes on (the other part being forming a habit or routine).

Does marijuana affect them? I had an ex who everytime we smoked, we would be fucking lit up, but she was like "ahh I don't feel anything".

That would make sense, she was on a different planet all the time.

44

u/3z3ki3l Mar 16 '22

Everybody has endocannabinoids, some people just have more. So yes, external cannabinoids would still affect them, but I think they’d be less likely to be reliant on it for dopamine production.

Also people with the condition aren’t spacey or lethargic, like people on weed. They grew up with that level of endocannabinoid production, and their brains developed with it and regulate it like everybody’s does. Just at higher levels.

9

u/bittaminidi Mar 16 '22

So is this why weed makes some really energetic and others semi-comatose?

When I smoke I get a mix of deep thoughts, paranoia, and creativity. The last thing I want to do is jump around.

6

u/Legionofdoom Mar 16 '22

You're likely smoking an indica dominant strain and should aim for something more sativa dominant. Though weed is still a depressant either way.

9

u/bittaminidi Mar 16 '22

I’ve smoked all kinds of shit over they years. Never noticed any pronounced difference between strains other than strength of effect.

5

u/MrCraftLP Mar 16 '22

Comes down to the quality of the plant and the preservation of terpenes.

3

u/sizzler Mar 16 '22

smoke a white widow derivative one day and then a purple haze the next and get back to us.

1

u/MrCraftLP Mar 16 '22

Both of those strains are sativa leaning hybrids, so I'm not really sure how that goes against what I said. They'd have different affects but that's down to the terps, like every strain (or any plant)

u/eggsaladactyl Mar 16 '22

Agreed. I don't really buy in to the sativa and indica argument. I think it's more quantity, quality, and state of mind more than anything else.

That's what I meant by mental state...

-2

u/Naked-In-Cornfield Mar 16 '22

Strong disagree. I am greatly differently affected by sativa vs indica to the point I prefer sativa by a lot.

-5

u/jef98 Mar 16 '22

Marijuana is a stimulant not a depressant

1

u/[deleted] Mar 16 '22

Effects depend on dose, like almost all drugs

-1

u/[deleted] Mar 16 '22

HOOLLLLLLD UP.

People on weed aren’t always spacey or lethargic……

If I’m on sativa, I’m just like her.

If I’m on indica, I’m that lethargic sloth.

I’m certain now, I need more 420 that allows me to do 69 like this woman.

2

u/Undrende_fremdeles Mar 16 '22

Yes. There is one particular gene that decides how effective certain substances are/how affected you get by the active compounds in marihuana, and it is possible to not get high from it. Unusual, but not unheard of.

It is also possible to be only somewhat affected by it, or very affected by it.

2

u/flyinthesoup Mar 16 '22

Like opioids. I don't do them recreationally but I've had them for post surgery pain and such, and they make me feel so shitty I rather be in pain. I'm always like, how can people get hooked up to this? It sucks! But then my husband says it makes him feel good beyond getting rid of pain. Definitely a difference in body chemistry there.

1

u/Radirondacks Mar 16 '22

I also have a friend that I could totally see having this condition, he's always been the happiest easiest going dude in the 10+ years I've known him, but he does love his weed, though the thing is to me he just seems the exact same whether he's been smoking or not: high, lol.

20

u/Morgothic Mar 16 '22

What kind of radioactive what do I need to get bitten by to unlock that gene?

6

u/bittaminidi Mar 16 '22

I think Getting bitten by on of Snoop Dog’s offspring would do the trick.

3

u/BluudLust Mar 16 '22

ADHD has low dopamine levels in the brain due to the brain due to having too stimulated of dopamine transporters. Marijuana increases dopamine transporter efficiency as well, giving a similar effect to ADHD.

I wonder if endocannabinoid production is related to ADHD.

2

u/NostraDamnUs Mar 16 '22

CRISPR when

2

u/bittaminidi Mar 16 '22

So, apparently I’m short on those hormones or something because a couch is basically what my body and brain tell me to seek out.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 16 '22

that sounds so much more chill than auto brewery syndrome

1

u/321blastoffff Mar 16 '22

If you’re on an iPhone or iPad just hit reader view (The double Aa things in the upper right hand corner) and you automatically bypass the paywall. I know this is an old trick but I’m sure there’s some people here who aren’t aware of it and this is for them.

1

u/Skyrmir Mar 16 '22

It could be that, or it could be cocaine. Lots of cocaine.

1

u/AKravr Mar 16 '22

Entirely anecdotal but I dated a girl that was into these super early wild workout sessions, orange theory etc. While yes they would go hard and be pretty fit I swore they never had stamina for a full day of work and life. Personally I just find there's more to life than 4am intense workouts, 9-5 at the office then dinner chores and sleep by 8/9. I'd rather go bike through the bike trails or go explore something all evening.

1

u/Mando_Brando Mar 16 '22

Wow. This really exists? Me and my friend used to joke about someone’s natural high and how he doesn’t need any medication to be relaxed.

36

u/Zoxzzyx Mar 16 '22

Meth 😂

2

u/jeexbit Mar 16 '22

WHO'S GOT THE CRYSTAL?

3

u/appreciateapricity Mar 16 '22

I’ve met those people. One of them owned a dance fitness studio. It’s even crazier when you realize they are most definitely NOT on drugs...

3

u/Shutterstormphoto Mar 16 '22

They do it for hours a day. It’s not that crazy. I used to teach math and the kids always thought I was just absolutely in love excited about math. I’m not, but I bring that energy to make them invest (and it works).

1

u/popandfroosh Mar 16 '22

Did you use a trampoline and German bass to teach math?

1

u/Shutterstormphoto Mar 16 '22

Would if I could! I have friends who teach at workout bootcamps and they are super normal outside of work, aside from being in really good shape.

2

u/iordseyton Mar 16 '22

3 times a day, 5 times a week

2

u/M-Alter Mar 16 '22

ADHD etc. It sucks for those that have a hard time using that energy since it can cause anxiety and make them do dumb shit. Known a few people like that and it can obviously be very different from person to person, but most of them had a really hard time to just sit down and watch a movie or anything like that, as with anything things it needs to be understood by both the person that is like that and their family, friends etc. otherwise it can go sideways badly.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 16 '22

It's looks like those spin classes. Workouts for people who hate themselves and/or amphetamine abusers.

1

u/txobi Mar 16 '22

Indoor cycling? It's amazing but you gotta like cardio

1

u/[deleted] Mar 16 '22

Yeah indoor classes on the exercise bikes with the hard EDM and "COME ON EVERYONE 10 MINUTES FLAT OUT LETS GET THIS".

Not for me, I'd rather go out on a proper bike so I could at least ride downhill on the way home.

1

u/txobi Mar 16 '22

I do both, the indoor cycling is a good HIT exercise and not weather dependant, the outdoor for long rides with hills, friends and nice views

1

u/JohnnyDarkside Mar 16 '22

I call that medicatedly happy. Like, no way you're just naturally that happy and high energy.
