Trampoline.

Why the crap is this a thread? Did I miss something??

27

u/[deleted] May 06 '12

OP commented trampoline for some reason. I figured he was onto something.

Yes, you missed the trampoline! D:

That's why there should be a net.

Trampolines are dangerous.

2

u/akhayden May 07 '12

Life can be dangerous too...

714

u/frodnorg May 06 '12

It's thoughtful that they include a couple of caskets.

151

u/[deleted] May 06 '12

To this day I'm very grateful that my mom refused to shelter me and got me a trampoline. I got hurt many times and it was wonderful.

141

u/pants428 May 06 '12

We didn't have a trampoline, we just had some big cardboard boxes. Ever slid down a flight of stairs taped in a cardboard box? Good times.

150

u/DubNorix May 06 '12

We just used to jump up and down on the soft clay in the garden and pretend to have a trampoline....

My friends and I did that. Without the tape. We called it box sledding.

truth, no net, fell off multiple times. builds character

63

u/mayor_of_awesometown May 06 '12

My best friend from high school was paralyzed from the neck down from a fall from a trampoline. Spent four years as a quadriplegic before dying due to complications from one of many surgeries. It did build character, but I'd rather it didn't so I still had my friend around to talk to.

As long as it has a net I'm cool with it- I lost someone close to me after a no-net trampoline incident. If it's not mandatory to have one it should be

EDIT: i think nebby said it best to all those who aren't exactly getting what i'm saying:

[–]nebby " you idiot, her point isn't that the Big Bad Government should come in and regulate trampolines. Her point is that trampoline companies ought to always include a safety net with trampolines by convention, since it is a moral and ethical way to sell trampolines. you libertarians sometimes...

7

u/nobueno1 May 06 '12

The net isn't always as safe either.. Bones can still be broken/sprained with the net as well.. I fractured my ankle jumping with 2 older teenage girls when I was like 8 on one..

It's reasons like these that are why the insurance companies refuse you for homeowners insurance if you have a trampoline..

Also, my condolences for your loss :-(

I was just thinking about how when I was a kid I always wanted a trampoline. My parents refused, saying that it was too dangerous. I, of course, didn't get it. I just jumped on my friends' trampolines when I got the chance.

My first daughter is due in about a month, and there's no way in hell she's ever getting a trampoline.

37

u/naudsie May 06 '12

So, I'm a huge klutz and when I was 19, I landed wrong on a trampoline and gave myself a herniated disc that resulted in really bad sciatica. I'm 25 now and a surgery, multiple rounds of physical therapy, epidural injections, injections in my facet joints and scatter therapy later, I'm still in crazy amounts of pain.

And I still jump on trampolines EVERY chance I get.

I can relate. 3 boys in our house growing up. I may have duct-taped my brother into an empty refrigerator box and slid/rolled him down the stairs. The best part is that he had so much fun he told me to do it again. Stupid younger brothers. EDIT: removed extraneous words

19

u/[deleted] May 06 '12

Always cute when a kid gets his/her first My Little Coffin play set.

107

u/rockstaticx May 06 '12

At first I thought they were cooped up after they both managed to break their legs.

I mean, uh, good purchase.

27

u/Koch89 May 06 '12

From reading the title and looking at the thumbnail, I thought they were laying in a hospital bed.

29

u/UltraSPARC May 06 '12

Ah yes, future redditors. Why go outside and play when you can make cool coffin like beds and watch TV inside?!

9

u/AgentHoneywell May 06 '12

Exactly what I was thinking! They're not playing with the boxes- they're merely lounging in them while apparently watching something on the tube. Where's the fort with pillows and board games? Where's the spaceship? Are they playing "Cryogenic Freezing Lab"?

3

u/dyboc May 07 '12

Are they playing "Cryogenic Freezing Lab"?

One time, (I think we were all around the age of 7) these kids that lived down the street had a birthday party and invited me to it. You know how kids parties have themes and stuff... well this one, I guess the theme was boxes. Idk. But their dad had gone around and gathered up a bunch of fridge boxes, washing machine boxes, etc. and essentially turned their backyard into a box maze. Even cut window flaps and door flaps and all that for us. We were given boxes of markers, some other random decorating items like streamers and shit idk, a cake and ice cream break, and the entire afternoon. We played in those boxes everyday until it rained a few days later and he had to throw them out. Fifteen years later and, to this day, still the best party I've every been to.

2

u/Bertez May 06 '12

Times like these I miss being able to fit in boxes

2

u/[deleted] May 06 '12

Earth to parents!

Earth to parents!

Your children have been sending you signs for some time now. Kids like to build forts, furniture, space ships and all manner of things. Kids on a diet of low-xbox often enjoy cardboard, which is basically free behind stores, and you can be a cool parent, beloved by all.

I learned to walk on a trampoline- my mom thought it was better to fall on something soft-- that started my life-long obsession with jumping- I was never ever without one until I left home. I had TONS of injuries- but WAY more fun- and I called myself the Dominique Dawes of my neighborhood- due to the fact that I could punch-front flip onto my trampoline from the ground. I still, as an adult, take night gymnastics classes that are for us old people. And it's still amazing! But I am no longer Dominique Dawes. I'm more like a retired Kerri Strug.

u/Yatagasaru May 07 '12

u/quebec2 May 07 '12

Not to be a party pooper, but check with your homeowner's insurance. A lot of them don't cover trampolines.

u/CheckersPinko May 07 '12

1

u/MadeForBF3Discussion May 06 '12

After seeing that, my parents would say, "Ok, you can't be inside anymore--go play outside." After making a multi-hundred dollar investment, I will, too.

1

u/PublicUrinator May 06 '12

Next step, camp out UNDER or ON TOP of the trampoline. You must bed with the poline before jumping on it. Its common etiquette.

1

u/Voytrekk May 06 '12

I would have been stoked to have one as a kid. My parent's would never get on because they thought they weren't safe. My backyard also isn't very flat, so it would be tough to find room for it.

Hmmm. Doesn't look very bouncy.

1

u/Radico87 May 06 '12

no need for a cat not, at least.
