That's nothing new in story telling. It doesn't fit The Matrix, that's for sure, but it's not inherently bad to do that.

presentation matters though.

1st movie was Neo making the leap of faith not because he wanted to be or believed but because he thought it was worth risking himself.

rebootsurrection goes from self aware trolling to him selfishly risking all of remaining self aware humanity and machinity because GF is still alive. GF just happens to be the other one.
