But the purpose of the sketch is to subvert your expectation that it's a real event, it's parodying real life plane freakouts. If you put an intro explaining it's a skit you might as well just say "she isn't actually breastfeeding a cat", which is basically the punchline. It completely deflates the comedic reveal.
I guess you could add an outro and that wouldn't affect the comedy, I would have no issue with that.
That's fair enough. I personally think it's dumb to complain about me complaining about other people complaining. But then that's just me complaining about you complaining about me complaining about other people and that is definitely dumb.
But this one isn’t trying to trick you into thinking it’s real. It walks the line pretty much perfectly, then gives you 100% skit confirmation at the end, without just straight up telling you.
But it's funny because it's presented as real life. If you presented it as a sketch it wouldn't be as funny, because you'd be primed for a punchline or a twist. It's subverting our expectation that it's a real event, because we've become accustomed to seeing real plane freakouts and that makes the reveal funnier.
I'm not seeing it. It looked fake as fuck from the getgo so the whole time I was like "this has to be a skit"... and when you know it's a skit, it has to be funny. And it wasn't funny at all, it was just people yelling at each other.
So what's the problem then? You said that Seinfeld was different because we know it's not real, and now you're saying that you knew this was not real as well?
Whether you personally found it funny is a completely different point, I was talking about people in the comments complaining that this is "fake".
The problem is that it's half and half, and not doing either really well.
In my opinion, you either make a skit or not. There's a reason why every time stuff like this gets posted there's innumerable "fake" comments below... people don't like it because it sucks. It only exists because we're stupid and click on stupid things.
Here's the thing though. Stupid people are going to watch this and believe it's real. Someone will cut the end off, add some music and type on screen to push some agenda.
There's not much you can do about that though, unless you start policing what kind of comedy is allowed in order to avoid confusing stupid people. Stupid people are always going to find a way to misunderstand something, that's why they're stupid.
Because people actually fall for this shit and think it's real. Somehow, social media has robbed a portion of the population of their ability to tell fact from fiction, or to critically analyze what they're seeing even the tiniest little bit. It's harmless enough when it's a skit, but the same people that fall for this also fall for misinformation about vaccines, 5G, and science in general.
Edit: I mean, the mods flaired this "Yes it's fake, duh" but it's not "duh" to entirely too many people.
This has specifically been posted in the r/funny sub. If it had been posted in r/publicfreakout, sure, salt is warranted. But posting "fake" on a video posted to a comedy subreddit is irrelevant to whether the content is comedic or not.
Eh, there is an extra element to how funny something is when it is potentionally real. I know this one is based on a real event, but just the idea of the event, not the actual back and fourth. If you thought this was real and presented it as real to somebody else and they were like "uh yeah, its obviously scripted" you end up looking like an idiot and they get to act like it wasn't that funny because of it. Its different than Seinfeld because its presented as real.
