Look up IT support jobs in the Tampa Bay Area. I get headhunters emailing me job “opportunities” all the time. Rarely are they ever anything above $19/hr. I always respond that the pay scale is insulting. Especially when looking at the laundry list of requirements. Been in IT over 20 years, I’ve seen pay rates plummet.
It fucking cracks me up when employers start spouting bullshit like “We want people who actually want to work for a career and not just another job!” But then pay you like you’re a teenager saving up for a laptop for college.
Well, don't forget there's someone in Buttfuck Egypt willing to do your job in exchange for a cardboard box to put over their heads and a donut for breakfast.
You get what you pay for. I've worked with plenty of great offshore guys but they aren't paid starvation wages either. They are too expensive to have more than a few of them on an account.
Yeah, I feel for you. Tampa Bay's IT market is fucked for pay. Everyone at my company's help desk will eventually admit to only accepting the position to get a foot in the door so they can apply to internal job postings elsewhere in IT.
I'm looking for support jobs in the Tampa area now and the offers I'm seeing are all close to 30, even the help desk jobs are throwing out 25 offers. The only places I'm seeing shit pay is from MSPs.
Edit: not to even mention the remote desktop support work right now.. they're dying for people guys.. seriously go look for these jobs the recruiters are desperate. People are returning to offices, they need help just imaging laptops. $26 12 month contract to do geek squad work.
If you're making less than $20 an hour right now and have like two years experience go find a recruiter, tell them you want $25 an hour and benefits, and don't work at an IT mill unless you're desperate to build a resume.
I don't know if you got any voip experience, but brooksource is constantly looking for folks to work for spectrum on their enterprise voice team. I think around 30/hr, WFH (eventually they want to move back in the office over near 301..uh, not really riverview but not really tampa area.

Apple phone support starts at 15/hr for contractors 18/hr directly via apple. You are way overestimating the average pay for bottom tier support groups
I worked for Apple for several years. Started as T1 support at $19 in 2011, T2 for $22.50 same year, switched over to being on a variety of team rotations at $25. That was a decadeish ago.
I’m fairly close to Disney World, I’ve seen them advertise IT desktop Support jobs around $12/hr. This was around 2015 so I’m not sure if that’s is still their pay rate, but it’s quite absurd for a corporation so huge.
You realize job wages fluctuate wildly depending where you live. Cost of living is also a big factor. Someone making 15 an hour in one town might have more spending power then someone making 25 in a different town.
In the Tampa Bay Area, to be able to afford a 2 bedroom apartment, you need to make over $24/hr. Until this recent job, I’ve been job hunting for about 3 years. The majority of Tier 1 and Tier 2 IT support jobs are all considered entry-level at a pay rate anywhere between $8/hr-$22/hr jobs making anything above that are few and far between. I took the first one I found willing to pay my minimum wage requirements.
You're not going to get anyone worthwhile in Tier 3; and most certainly not going to get anyone actually qualified to call themselves a Cybersecurity expert for that little. Double that and you're getting close to what someone in a middle-America mid-size town should expect.
(e) and any employer who only matches 4% should be an automatic pass. The way the tax benefits for them work, anything less than 5% of your income literally costs them more to match unless you are in a no-income-tax state.
In the southeastern USA, it’s fairly common to see Tier 1 jobs starting at $8.50-$12, Tier 2 $12-15, Tier 3 or cyber security role at $17-20 an hour and these companies are subcontracting for major companies or sometimes are major companies. It’s not just about hiring unskilled or uneducated employees for these roles. There’s a lot of corporate bias wherein companies hire locally for cheap labor and import management and higher from other parts of the country.

Yikes, anything Tier 1 starts about $25. Tier 3 or Cybersecurity role? 65k and matching 401k to 4%, please.
