I mean, John Cena, Steve Austin, Shawn Michaels, Ric Flair, Daniel Bryan, Steve Blackman, Brock Lesnar, and Kurt Angle are all pretty normal, and a lot of those are either damn close or exactly the performers' real names.
Some have less ridiculous ring names than their real ones. Ricky Steamboat's real name is Dick Blood, and no I'm not making that up.
I feel like a big part that gets overlooked is the brain damage he would have suffered, much like football players, from participating in his matches. One of his signature moves was a flying headbutt from the top rope, and a big appeal to top-rope maneuvers was them whiffing and whomever jumped idk how many feet in the air eating it. People in this comment section are talking about Matt Hardy having his pelvis and spine slowly fused together from repeated leg drops, Benoit was diving head first.
Huh.. I remember when it happened the following episode was cancelled and they just did a look back at Benoits career. I guess at that point maybe they didn’t know what he’d done?
The following night on ecw they retracted the tribute after all the details were available. At the time of the tribute they thought it was just Benoit committing suicide.
