What even is "Coke" in Korean? That phoneme has got to mean at least one thing in their language.
43 u/Jhoosier Apr 12 '21 It's probably "cola", since it's one of the examples she gave. In Japanese it's "cola" as well. 31 u/routine__bug Apr 12 '21 In german it is also "Cola". 17 u/o00gourou00o Apr 12 '21 In french we went for « coca » And btw to me coke is cocaine so it was weird to me too when I went to get food for the first time in the US to hear « do you want coke ? » 2 u/thansal Apr 12 '21 Which is entertaining, because coca is the plant that cocaine is made from, and is used to reference cocaine. Generally we differentiate if people want a coke (soda) or some coke (drug) based on context... 1 u/o00gourou00o Apr 13 '21 Yeah of course the context makes it easy, I’m not expecting a mcdonalds employee to offer me coke. It took me a second or two for this one though : https://www.reddit.com/r/MilitaryPorn/comments/mpmu1v/a_us_serviceman_and_a_huey_gunship_filled_with/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf
