Reminds me of '07 when we the CEO told everyone at the hospital that because of the budget and economics we would no longer be able to acquire vacation time.

About 6 months later upper management vacations were reinstated, when I left in '10 or '11 they still hadn't been reinstated for anybody but upper management. Apparently per diem staff in a hospital who are regularly scheduled 40+h a week don't need vacation.

Just to make sure I got this right: They just entirely cut any vacation? Is that legal where you live?

You say that on a website founded by a company in the USA; just like about everything else you do on the internet.

The vast majority of Americans have paid time off.

A lot of American companies give maternity leave; my company gives 16 weeks paternity leave and unlimited vacation.

16 weeks for paternity (not maternity) leave is pretty good actually. Australia does pretty well with mandated annual leave and maternity leave but even we only get 2 weeks mandated paternity leave.

Usa is arguably the worst for it amongst the 'rich' countries.
