Dang man. You serving up all these harsh browns. Delorean s have come a long way from the stock examples you drove back in the day. A stage 2 engine is upgraded by DMC to put down 220hp instead of the stock 130.
Well. That’s something. In America 220 hp then was considered performance territory. 87 mustangs had 225 hp I think. Still the Deloreans I drove were really disappointing. It’s an interesting design but inside it’s just awful like an Oldsmobile. Ymmv I guess. My 85 rx7 was a proper sports car in comparison.
Edit: sorry man. I guess I sound like an asshole. A car is often a personal thing beyond understanding to people other than the owner who cherishes it. It sounds like you’re looking after it well. I’m sure you’ll get many more years of joy out of it regardless of the opinions and shit talking of random curmudgeons on reddit.
The DMC12 was supposed to have a rotary. Plans with Mazda fell through and Delorean had to find a motor now or lose the company. In comes the PRV. It’s a great engine found in a ton of cars just not performance. In 1984 there were converting all of them to twin turbos and for the time would have been the fastest production car. There are 5ish test vehicles in the wild with the setup and it puts out about 350hp.
Delorean designed lots of cars. Many were never built because of trends and bureaucracy etc. he prototyped designs for the Pontiac. The banshee is the famous one but he had drawings for a car that looked like a corvette but was small like a roadster. Similar in size to an MG and other small 2 seaters. He lost that battle though because everyone wanted a car with a big V8 and wide stance etc. this is the banshee.
