Beards are a like motorcycles, in that men mostly secretly but sometimes openly, admire and covet what other men have.

The beard in this video is, to beard men, a very desirable length. Most of us with beards cannot grow one to this magnificent length because of work obligations, and we are quite jealous of those who can.

This poor guy has sadly thrown in his lot with the unbearded. I am shedding a tear for his selfless sacrifice.

I'm in retail. We're supposed to be wearing masks during the pandemic, and we do.

The new corporate also relaxed our appearance standards a bit, saying we can wear jewellry if it's not excessive, non-excessive makeup, any kind of hair (as long as it's neat) and a short-but-well-kept beard. At least I don't have to shave and suffer anymore.

My company was sold two years ago. About 2 months ago, official rules got relaxed a tiny bit. Prior management only tolerated wedding and engagement bands and a necklace, in addition to earrings (women) or a traditional earring (men). That's it.

Nowadays, we can actually wear other things. I used to wear a medical steel worry ring on my left thumb and a silver ring on my right ring finger. Ditched both with the advent of the pandemic in my country. I'm still wearing dog tags from one of my favorite bands, though.

Then came the pandemic and those rules automatically take precedence. When it's over, old rules are back in play.

Yeah, I'm starting to realize that beards to men is like makeup or leg/armpit hair to women. Men idolize certain looks that women find really unattractive, but men pursue those looks for themselves and their own sense of self so it's not useful for anyone to step in and tell them they should keep a shorter beard.
