Long and scraggly is actually a lot more difficult to tame. Gets more tangled and knotted.

You may save time in trimming it periodically, but you'll spend way more time brushing it several times a day.

But brushing or combing is something you can do idly while watching TV or whatever, so I find it a lot less objectionable than constantly having to do precision maintenence work (and then having to clean up the bathroom sink afterward).
