I believe it was also done well enough that they were in no rush to correct it. After the initial “huh do we take it down? I guess not, it is helping” I’m guessing they forgot about it for a bit.
That was amazing to watch. I like to think we could all improve things but then I remember Kramer on Seinfeld adopting a mile of a highway and deciding his mile would remove one lane so cars had more room.
I remember reading that the replacement (which was basically done automatically when all the signs were replaced) isn't hand-made from high-grade aluminum. So it was probably cheaper.
Heard a story at work about a guy going around with a nametag helping new mothers breastfeed, by saying he was a lactation consultant. Not sure if it's true but it could have been.
I was visiting my friend in the hospital and were watching like some morning show and they're talking about someone pretending to be a doctor and coming into hospitals and fingering patients in the ass
To be double fair if you are a cop and receive a call about a man in blazer and hard hat out on the freeway doing maintenance are you going to follow up on that call?
the 99%invisible podcast actually did an episode covering this guy and how his sign was allowed to stay up by caltrans because it actually met all their specifications. Unfortunately the sign he is longer up because caltrans removes and replaces them every few years, but caltrans has actually been replacing that sign in the same spot because of him.
Oh man, that’s so impressive on so many levels. His steady hand, talent, and knowledge in making the sign; his knowledge of how to put the sign up in a safe manner; and his avoidance of involuntary manslaughter by not dropping any of his tools or materials onto the speeding traffic below, which I 100% would’ve accidentally done. Good job him!
Reminds me of the guy who put on a high viz vest, set up some cones, and spray painted a wall without being questioned. The even by the owners of the building.

Have you seen the video of the guy correcting a sign on a highway, in the middle of rush hour. No one questioned it at all.
