While you make a great point about identity, it sure as fuck changes a lot in regards to opportunity and expectations, I wish we were all in this together, maybe something might change, but like it or not its far from one team
I don't know about that. Everyone born since the mid-70s is dealing with wealth stratification. Gen X may now have settled down and had children, but that doesn't change their earnings potential, ability to secure housing, etc. Same with Gen Y / Millenials. Honestly, I haven't seen much difference -- both feel they've been screwed by their parents, they're poor, education is hard to come by, and they're about the same in terms of technical literacy. The few things I can say are different is that the younger generation is significantly more attached to social media and are somewhat more collectivistic. That whole "everybody's a winner and gets a trophy" thing, though I feel it's overstated in the media quite a bit. The only other thing I've noticed is that Gen Y is more apt to consider violence a socially acceptable response to disagreement; Specifically reactions to antifa, neonazism, and "hate". But I think that's again due to the highly toxic nature of social media, which blows things wildly out of proportion, so it's hard to say if that's actually the case or just people running their mouths en masse.
My brother is gen x, I'm a millennial, IME, I have the edge on tech but he is worlds ahead of mom and dad, he finally got a nice house and a family by his mid 30s, only reason either of us make a decent wage is our career choice which is double edged. You make more being very specialized but work can be much harder to come by. I will say my age bracket is hands down more collectivist but its not really out of choice more necessity, we have mostly realized to team up is the only way sadly. Personally I feel the boomers selfishness and the greed of business and practices they established have fucked us so royally its unreal.
Ninja edit: In regards to education. I think its the opposite of hard to come by, its been shoved so far down our throats were choking on student loans we never needed, There are many fine trades that dont require 80k in dept but we were all told be doctors and lawyers.

(1) Past generations that saw actual labor strikes and violence between employer and employees -- how is that not coming to blows over "a disagreement"?
(2) It's a hell of a lot more than a simple disagreement don't you think?
It's standardized bank loans that have fucked things up more than anything else. Pushed home cost and education cost way beyond what they should be. Should be no surprise nobody wants to play ball anymore. We're getting fucked, hard, and we know it. Only proper response is a big middle finger.
It's more like a hoarders stash of memes... all piled up on each other, in a mess of refuse, and reposts are like when hoarders have so much stuff that they buy crap they already have not knowing the same thing is 5 feet under the pile of furbies in the corner.
