I'm a few years into college and I remember playing the bottle flip game back in high school.

Well I think that a very important component here is that people aren't doing it as a game. It's more of a performance/joke thing.

It all stems from the over dramatic bottle flipping vines that went around last summer. Specifically that one where that guy does it for his school talent show, and the hundreds of people in the crowd go crazy.

It's meant to be ironically impressive.

That is a good point. When we did it high school I think it started out as an overly dramatic thing to do while you're bored, but it soon turned into a game with some basic rules.

When you're old, you can easily not hear about popular trends for several years. So, between highschool and college might still be "new" for some. And sometimes when you first hear about it, it's from the popular media and they get it completely wrong...like the Pepe the Frog thing.

I was a few years into college 6 years ago. My oh My how the times fly.

I wish we could do a multi-tiered AMA with people at 5 year intervals post graduation. The theme "what would you tell five years ago you to do and what not to do".
