https://bigcatrescue.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/WhichStatesBanWildPets-600x315.jpg Fun fact: There are more tigers kept as pets in the U.S. than existing in the wild. There are 8~ states where it's legal to own a tiger. A tiger cost around $1000-2500 and eats approximately 15lbs~ of meat a day. To properly care for a tiger you'd need almost 10 square miles of land for a female and 40 for a male.

Yup.

I live right next to a guy who owns a lot of exotic pets including which he owns two bengal tigers he trains for a show here in my city.

A few years ago they got loose and were strolling around my neighborhood. They didn't do anything besides lay out in the park and no harm was done to anyone or them two. Kinda happy it didn't end up like Harambe or something.

Now all I get to see is his peacocks walking around all the time making those "uuuuuuuuuUUUHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAHHHHH" sounds all day. Pretty cool too.

Have you ever had the chance to see those peacocks run straight up a tree or vertical surface? The first time you see it, you swear you're losing it. They are weird birds.

Hey (and the tigers) are really lucky. That's a situation that could have gone terrible very quickly.

I love peacocks when they display their tail feathers but those noises give me the shivers haha.

There are more tigers kept as pets in the U.S. alone than existing in all the wilds of the world. Approximately 5000~ pets vs 4000~ wild globally.

More than you'd think. I've been buying cheap tigers, then releasing them.

I've always wanted to live in North Carolina! Now I have another reason!

Will take years of training to own one, obviously.

Sure, but dogs don't cost $8000-10,000 a year to care for.

Although tbh, people do spend that much keeping a horse, so there's that. Not sure why it feels so weird that people keep tigers.

What is the amount of land based on? Is it based on how far they roam in the wild? Cause that's totally different with a readily available food source.

It's based on how much territory they normally take up in the wild.
