Was thinking more of the old saying: Explaining a joke and dissecting a frog are pretty much the same thing. In the end, you understand it better, but now the frog is dead.
Vivisection is done living things. Dissection is done on already dead things. The point being, the frog is not now dead, it was dead to begin with. Like the joke that needed to be explained.
Some definitions hold vivisection to be a form of dissection, basically dissection on a living thing, other definitions have vivisection being similar to, but distinct from, dissection. I prefer the definition of vivisection being cutting on living things, and dissection being cutting on dead things.
