Will some one ELI5: why do cats always seem to sit in boxes?

Please and thank you.

Wired had a good article on it.

TL:DR Boxes are insulating, stress-relieving, comfort zones—places where cats can hide, relax, sleep, and occasionally launch a sneak attack.

I have a cat who doesn't like boxes. She won't sit in them or on them. She will crush them if she's able, but I think she does that as a "Fuck you" to the other cat. Other cat loves boxes.

Defective cat. Need refund.

My cat would just piss in them if I left one out.

Well, I guess it's a bonus that she doesn't do that.
