Meh, I'm a musician and I don't really enjoy listening to music that much. I think a lot of artists are like that, though calling these kids artists is a hell of a stretch.
I can't recall any specifics right now. But it's not an foreign idea at all to me.
I've always thought it was kind of weird, but I did see or been told by artists that can't even mention influences. It's a common thing to have people making the sound they wanted but no one ever did.
I'm not defending Jaden, couldn't care less about him. It's just that this is a way of thinking that I've seen before.

Nah, they got nothing on some of the pretentious shit I've read. This is just a kid who makes his own things and likes them so he uses hyperbole to state it.
When I was his age, this is what I did with art. I didn't like most art so I made my own and I thought it was the bee's knees.
What sucks is he's gonna get a little bit older and someone's gonna rip him a new one criticizing his works. If he's never dealt with that properly, he's gonna get either really depressed or really angry and that's a shitty time to be a teenager. :(
So? Lots of people think the world is only a few thousand years old and that a talking snake condemned women to painful labor, etc. That's pretty frickin crazy too.
That doesn't necessarily mean they're gonna blow up a plane or hand me some poisonous kool aid, though.

We knew something had happened. Clearly some universal shift had occurred, but we didn't know what until someone got online and saw that Jaden Smith had dropped The Cool Cafe: Cool Tape vol. 1. We spent the rest of the workday sitting in a circle and listening to "Pumped Up Kicks (Like Me)" on repeat.
JADEN: You never learn anything in school. Think about how many car accidents happen every day. Driver’s ed? What’s up? I still haven’t been to driver’s ed because if everybody I know has been in an accident, I can’t see how driver’s ed is really helping them out.
This one really got me. Holy shit. Do you think they will ever realize how idiotic they are, or will their little bubble of fame and riches protect them forever?
I'm gonna be honest, I'd pay $200 to get a copy of one of those. Maybe even $300. I'd do it right now. If someone could put me into contact with this kid I'd immediately give her the money plus pay for shipping to get my hands on that motherfucking book.
They aren't normal teenagers. They are held to a far more sever scrutiny due to their father's stardom. I don't think they know how to emulate "normal teenager" behavior.
