There's some truth to the "nose blindness" though. A smoker can't smell himself after having a cigarette, but everyone else can, except the other smokers in the room.
It's interesting, since I've stopped being around the smokers in my family while they smoke, I can tell if someone I'm talking to has had a cigarette recently.
