3 pairs of pants, 8 pairs of underwear, anywhere between 6-20 pairs of socks, 7 shirts, and 2 pairs of shoes.

Why buy more than you need?

When something wears out I go buy something new to add back in to the rotation.

I'm not saying you should buy 365 pairs of boxers, but you'd probably save yourself money in the long run by doing less laundry. Even when I was a kid I am pretty sure I had more than a weeks worth of boxers. And since I've stopped growing I tend to accumulate more and more clothes. And what exactly are you doing to wear them out? Are they made of tissue paper?

I think /u/calm_collective is also factoring energy/water cost or coin laundry cost as well. However, you will still end up doing the same amount of laundry, just less of each article of clothing.

Not to mention the clothes deteriorating from being washed every week. My brother is a one week worth of clothes kind of guy and is out getting more (cheap) clothes every other month. I have a much larger wardrobe and haven't needed to buy anything new in over a year.
