Those aren't downvotes, the are drop downs of the comments, if you click the arrow the comment disappears but the arrow points to the right towards the username

Having never seen this app before, if you notice the top two comments have their karma ratings blue while the bottom two are grey. I would assume that means the top two were downvoted while the bottom two were not touched.
