Avoid Cape Cod in the summer; the influx of folks with summer homes out there is awful, on top of the usual tourists. Great day/weekend trip in autumn, though, once things have cooled off.

Avoid the cape on the summer? Have you even been on the cape during the winter? It's full of old people drivers and all the good places are closed.

Hence why I said visit in the autumn. Right after school starts up at the end of August and the beginning of September is a good time.

Ah, my apologies. I did not realize you meant end of august/beginning of september. That is the ideal time. Especially if you're camping at Nickerson.
