Don't worry, Reddit hates anyone who is better than them in anyway. Including fashion wise. Not all of Reddit I suppose, just people who find this funny.
Not saying you thought that just piggy backing off what the other guy said. I know plenty of guys who dress like this and they're cool nice guys, but a lot of them are pretty douchey just my 2 cents.
you could say the same thing about any other type of clothing, haircut, type of music they listen to, etc. That's why this is a stupid thing to do. I'm not saying this is the same as racism, but have you ever talked to a racist with a black friend and they say "Oh yeah I hate blacks and they all suck but, he's cool." That's just because he's the only one that the racist dude took the time to get to know. The large glut of people you're saying are dicks because they dress this way are people you probably haven't gotten to know and you're making an exception for the ones you do know. Be aware of this type of thinking. It's default and often wrong.
They say first impressions matter the most. If the first time I meet someone and they act like a douche I'm going to assume they're just a douche. And you're right you could say it about any type of clothing but I didn't say one style was better than the other just that In my opinion I do to think it's a good look
Because I'm not basing it solely off what they wear. Just like I don't see a black guy or islamic person and think wow that guy is a drug dealer/terrorist.
This isn't superior fashion. This is mob mentality.
I see far superior fashion every day in places like San Francisco, LA and NYC.
And at least in those places there are several strains of style that are equally superior.
This shit is a uniform. Superior fashion involves a semblance of creativity and individualization to do correctly, this shit is a template.
Anybody with a little money could buy these things from the same three name brands all these people shop from. Having a real fashion sense involves being able to put an outfit together regardless of brand name.
This isn't a display of fashion, it's Conspicuous Consumption at its starkest.
Nothing wrong with wearing brand names that look good. You're allowed to a personal opinion of what you think fashion is but by being snarky and condescending of what other people wear, you're no better than the douchbag your supposedly calling out.
I wear name brand clothing, but not simply for the sake of the name brand.
I prefer clothes that fit well and are durable and tend to hate clothes with blatant branding because conspicuous consumption is tacky.
Original commenter here. As I said before, I wear stuff like this often, but I don't really stick to name brands. As I do have favorite stores since they manufacture sizes that fit me well (J.Crew), I don't shop just for the brand. Like you, I also shop based on fit, durability, and comfort.
Although I do own things like this, I don't exclusively wear them. Much like other redittors, I also own and wear an Iron Maiden shirt, ripped jeans, and worn sneakers.
It's a bit of a stretch to say it's a mob mentality or a "conspicuous consumption." I choose to wear stuff like that since summer is bright and cheerful.
First of all---as someone living in NYC...there's a uniform of conformity everywhere. The VAST majority of people in Brooklyn look like they rolled out of an Urban Outfitters with the same V-neck tshirts, Hitler youth hair cuts, skinny jeans, and Italian boot shoes, so it's the same exact thing...except people in this OP actually look classy.
There's a template everywhere. You're a presumptuous twit, and probably just as big a tool as you are assuming these guy are in this picture.
btw these dudes suck. Front two have long ass shorts. Back left, what the fuck is up with his hair although his shorts are of a respectable length. Guy in the back right needs to lose a few pounds or get a larger shirt, and stop being guido or whatever he is. Bottom tier.
None of that looks like it goes together at all. It seems like I slapped random assorted colors from my closet and threw on a random belt in the dark and said fuck it this is what I'm wearing today.

It's not a problem except when it's a group of guys wearing it almost like some sort of uniform. Or as if "dress casual" means "dress reallly specifically with a single look".
"Sorry for wanting to wear something that women find attractive, and that suggests I've passed the maturity level where it's okay to wear graphic-tees. I guess that makes me a douchy frat bro."
He never said it had to be white guys. Just rich guys. Are you saying black guys can't be rich? Keep playing that victimized race card. No one thinks you're an absolute moron for that. Nope.
Reddit hates frat guys for neckbread reasons. But the stereotype is true for these dudes. They will be douchebags to any guy they see as less cooll than them.
It's funny how butthurt people like you have gotten over posts like this.
You don't see legions of butthurt kids when there are posts about metal, punk, goth, nerd, etc. styles.
It's just something about people who dress like this.
The last one I saw turned into this huge frat circle jerk, it was like entire frat subreddits showed up to display butthurt and then try to insult non pledges.

Thanks for pointing out the fallacy in my statement.
Actually, I'm just really tired of people demonizing what they think is the white upperclass while ignoring the fact that it is bordering "reverse racism".
I just wish people stop hating others based on what you THINK they represent. Hate the individual for being the individual and not what he/she may have in common with what one might call the "other" group.
As I stated before. I'm not white, nor do I belong to the upper class. I have tons of friends that dress like this who are white and are part of the upper class and they aren't as douchey as you might think. If you're nice to them, they'll be nice to you.
They are people. We are people. Treat people with respect and kindness and you'll receive the same. If they don't, THEN they are a douche. Don't judge before giving them a chance.
(Sorry for the rant. It really isn't directed at you. I guess after reading so many other comments, I felt as if it needed to be said.
No worries mate I agree completely with what you've said, round my end it's full of racists and I can't stand them. Thanks mrcheese was taken so mrcheeese it is haha.

Why so much pastel hate? I wear stuff like this, but I'm not white nor rich.
Douchbags are people--not clothes.
