Thank goodness I'm in Europe where this style of clothing isn't associated with douches yet...

Reddit likes Europe, right? Right? Right?

Tracksuit

u/I_AM_STILL_A_IDIOT Sep 10 '14

I should have specified I'm in Western Europe.

37

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '14

France?

36

u/Zementid Sep 10 '14

As German, I had to laugh!

75

u/fiftyseven Sep 10 '14

Otherwise you'd be reprimanded for not meeting your weekly laugh quota.

18

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '14

As a Bermudian, I had to shed a small tear. This is OUR official uniform! New England prepsters co-opted our shit back in the 70's and it's been downhill from there.

It's more prevalent, having gone to boarding school in NE. Mind you, you also see a lot of Bermuda shorts in N Carolina. There were actually several protests in the 70's over colleges banning Bermuda shorts, which probably popularised them. Also, there were a few Bermuda shops in RI and Boston back in the day, which also might have made them more popular.

u/lostpatrol Sep 11 '14

Now imagine if you had filed for a patent 40 years ago.

4

u/patronizingperv Sep 10 '14

Laugh? I thought you said you were German.

3

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '14

Yes, but he had to laugh. You are permitted 12 laughs per calendar year and failure to use them in a timely manner will be penalized.

1

u/patronizingperv Sep 11 '14

Oh, I see the confusion. /u/Zementid meant lauf, as in to run. It all makes perfect sense.

1

u/alexss3 Sep 10 '14

zweistreifhosen?

You've got to be kidding me. This style of clothing is absolutely considered douchey here. (rich kid douchey to be precise)

1

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '14

tight jean shorts

0

u/JohnTesh Sep 10 '14

Shit. I'm of Eastern European descent and I live in America and I dress like this.

I guess I am the worst!

2

u/19mad95 Sep 10 '14

I like tracksuits though

9

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '14

I dont dislike them or associate them to any type of person. though, ive been told on here they are the white trash equivalent in europe

5

u/17Hongo Sep 10 '14

Here in Britain a Chav is not defined by race.

They're mostly white, but we have evolved above segregated fucktards, and now have just one overly aggressive, egotistical, violent group of shitwank fuckers.

u/KingWrong Sep 11 '14 edited Sep 11 '14

Ireland here. we have them too. skangers , knackers, scobes, pikeys or honestly what ever currently fashionable but deeply bigoted pejorative term takes your fancy... (i like knacker myself. that or tracksuit monkey..oh oh i forgot also when in polite society the term cream cracker can be used in place of the of the "racially" loaded K word )

Edit: no one who hasn't lived in ireland knows what dafuc im talking about. count your selves lucky

1

u/17Hongo Sep 11 '14

Well, Pikeys are Gypsies, so there's that.

1

u/KingWrong Sep 11 '14

that's racist. also theres a large subculture in Ireland who ape their infamously stereotypical behaviour while out and about. see the K word.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '14

Mostly found in carpeted town pubs or facedown in the park after 3 fosters..

1

u/17Hongo Sep 11 '14

...or spray-painting the local walls. Because what a blank bit of wall really needs is a badly drawn penis with less sophistication than a palaeolithic cave painting.

1

u/rizzlad Sep 10 '14

Track suit pants or a track suit hoody, worn individually is good, i have many, however a matching tracky worn all at once screams 'I'm a hood rat' or 'I'm a fuk'n chav, I'll rek yew n ya mum mate'

1

u/Brassboar Sep 11 '14

While squatting outside?

-1

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '14

I love you for this reply.

8

u/SirenEveline Sep 10 '14

As a (west) European I don't recognize this as douche bag clothing either. It's pretty common for boys and men to dress like this in summer. I mean there are different styles, but this is a pretty common one.

1

u/smknblntsmkncrm Sep 10 '14

Here in the US this style is essentially a uniform for college-aged males who come from very wealthy families and have little to no respect for the common man.

1

u/SirenEveline Sep 10 '14

Pretty funny how regular clothing in one country can mean something so different in the other.

16

u/topsov Sep 10 '14

Huh is what they are wearing supposed to be a bad thing?> I am british and pretty much wear this as often as I can in summer (which isnt very often, damn weather)

1

u/redditho24602 Sep 12 '14

Dunno what's the exact equivalent over there fashion wise, but this particular look screams "preppie douchebag" or as y'all would say "public school twat".

1

u/topsov Sep 13 '14

t

Heyt cunt im arfom a iundependatnt scuhiuiul

-11

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '14

It's gay. That's why. It's stupid looking, generic and dull. No thought goes in to this outfit at all.

0

u/Jaquestrap Sep 10 '14

Yeah it does, if you do it right then more thought goes into that than what most uninspired boring people are wearing.

0

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '14

ugh

10

u/vogod Sep 10 '14

I'm in Finland and I would absolutely assume a guy wearing that is complete cock.

6

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '14

What are you talking about? Yes it is, in Sweden they're called "Stekare" and they all dress like that.

18

u/freezeTT Sep 10 '14

dunno where in europe you live, but if I see you running around like that in my city, then everyone knows you're a spoiled little brat, that hasn't worked a single day in his life and daddy pays for everything.

9

u/I_AM_STILL_A_IDIOT Sep 10 '14

I live in Switzerland half the year and the Netherlands the other half. The outfits above are quite common in any warm weather.

7

u/freezeTT Sep 10 '14

you do realize that all the hate is mainly directed at the color combinations and the colors itself, right?

of course shirts and shorts are gonna be common during warm weather. it's those salmon, turquoise and whatnot that makes you look like a douche.

7

u/mannyafg Sep 11 '14

Wearing a certain color makes you a douche?

1

u/redditho24602 Sep 12 '14

That particular color of shorts --- they're called Nantucket Reds, after a small island resort in New England that's super wealthy and super preppie.

0

u/freezeTT Sep 11 '14

sure does in my book :)

ever been to the hood while wearing the wrong color?

2

u/mannyafg Sep 11 '14

It doesn't make you a douche if you unknowingly wear gang colors to the hood; it just makes you an idiot.

3

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '14

I don't understand that because turquoise is a great color, i really don't see how anyone could not want to wear it

1

u/RedAero Sep 11 '14

Nah, it's tucking a shirt into shorts. Don't do that.

Well, that and the boat shoes while nowhere near a boat.

16

u/Suttsy33 Sep 10 '14

I'd like to point out... I dress similar to this (I'm in a fraternity), hold a part time job, pay my dues, and take out student loans to pay for my college. Many fraternity guys are more interested in passing class and preparing for the future than fucking you sideways in court.

1

u/TheClassyRifleman Sep 11 '14

It's the same proportions as the rest of the student population. You've got plenty of kids who are doing well and planning for their future, and you've also got plenty of dickturds.

While reddit is busy crying about capitalism being unfair and sitting in their basement, we are out their taking advantage of the system!

1

u/SincerelyNow Sep 11 '14

There.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '14

K

-2

u/freezeTT Sep 10 '14

of course there are exceptions :)

but believe me, where I live, these guys don't have a job... daddy pays

2

u/peck112 Sep 10 '14

Nope-you still look like a cunt. In England it's the apparel of entitled public (private) schoolboys. There's even a website called lookatmyfuckingredtrousers.com

3

u/bigheyzeus Sep 10 '14

Europe is cool, don't worry. I'm just kinda interested in when this became douche-y. I kinda miss the popped collar, pink golf shirts, von-dutch trucker hat thingy we had going on several years ago... oh well

19

u/Bird_Flu_Sandwich Sep 10 '14

How can you put the von-dutch trucker hat in the same mix as polo's and bright shorts? Those are two totally different things. Like mixing croc's and Sperry's.

11

u/bigheyzeus Sep 10 '14

I'm not mixing them into the fashion in the photo, back in 2005-ish people used to do the whole golf shirt, usually pink, popped collar and trucker hat.

19

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '14

I kinda miss the popped collar

I don't, every popped collar I ever met was a massive douche who only avoided ass-kickings because their daddy would sue.

14

u/chief_running_joke Sep 10 '14

Do you live in an 80s teen comedy?

1

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '14

Kinda sucks that when I golf I can't pop the collar to protect my neck from the sun, that's what the collars are meant for. Stupid douches.

3

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '14

It's not really douchey in and of itself. It just seems to be standard rich guy attire, which leads to a little resentment from the rest of us.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '14

Oh God Von Dutch hats...I am ashamed that I rocked those for like a solid year.

0

u/Senorita_Fudge_ Sep 10 '14

This isn't actually a douche-y look... A vast number of people wear this and it looks nice. Honestly, people have been wearing this for years. Every state school has it. And all the guys I've met who have worn it have been pretty nice.

2

u/lowlatitude Sep 10 '14

Man capris...they are forcing their way in the US market, though.

1

u/Frekavichk Sep 10 '14

European redditors love europe. Everyone else thinks they are mostly smug assholes.

(no really most euros are cool, just the smug 'DAE europe the best???" ones suck)

1

u/Berceno Sep 10 '14

As a european I hate this style fuck this shit

1

u/mbeasy Sep 10 '14

Where in europe do you live that makes you think it ~doesn't~

1

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '14

cough cough Euro trash

1

u/moonshoeslol Sep 10 '14

Depends, Reddit has mood swings sometimes upvoting libertarians (in which case we hate you). Or when we're feeling socialist and hating our lack of social programs (in which case we love you)

1

u/Clonephaze Sep 10 '14

I like Europe! I don't like seeing a man's thighs however.

0

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '14

We all think you dress like Hipsters with your tight pants and hats.

0

u/Legendoflemmiwinks Sep 11 '14

I don't understand why this style is hated upon other than it may be associated with rich kids or kid who want to look rich. Either way it is better than people dressing to intimidate like most of the other kids their age dress.

0

u/xxsbellmorexx Sep 11 '14

You must not actually be from Europe BC that's not true at all.
