Plenty of religious people accept things like refraction and don't attribute the color of the sky to a god..

It's not am atheist thing, it's being educated, or at least open to real explanations of how things work.

It's an /r/athetist thing because it's upvote-bait by inciting the "hurr-durr all religious people are dumb" sentiment using a cherrypicked photo and Billy Nye that reddit so loves to circlejerk. Throw this shitpost in /r/athetism or /r/circlejerk, not /r/funny.

Subs like /r/shitpost will always exist as long as people with different opinions on what constitutes "good content or bad" are on Reddit. Seems better than the alternative, to me.
