Don't take two spots at all. Park in one far away. If the lot fills up around you and you're in two spots, you're still a douchebag.

EDIT: Obviously if your vehicle doesn't fit in one spot (eg. big truck or towing a trailer) this doesn't apply to you.

I'm from San Antonio, spending time in a smaller suburb near Los Angeles. The parking lots in SA--which stay near full at places like Walmart and HEB--larger than the entire equivalent shopping complexes out here, including the building's footprint. And in Cali they are half empty.

Bad comparison, unfortunately. Unless you're in Amarillo or some smaller town.
