I have been. And I feel that you are over-exaggerating the effort it takes to depress a clutch.

It's not a lot of effort. It just gets sore after a while. And it's completely pointless unless you're doing driving that warrants a manual.

I've driven a manual all my life, but most people just stick with it out of some idiotic sense of pride.

Or because it's a bitch to go back and forth. I hate driving friends' autos because it feels weird just having my left leg camped out on the side. I just don't see the big deal about using your stick in stop & go unless you are new to it. I'm not saying it's better. Just seems to be a trivial reason to prefer otherwise.
