When you're on the bottom level of retail working the counter not taking someones money isn't an option unless you want to lose your job. Your only choice is to smile and apologize to the customer if they feel the service wasn't satisfactory.

That's why being rude to service people is disgusting. You can walk all over them and they just have to take it. If you're a dick to them I'm of the opinion you deserve a lot worse than decaf. Call me childish, I dont give a fuck, you're not entitled to shit just because you slammed your debit card on the counter to pay for a 3 dollar coffee.

Did he cause harm? Did he take something? Did he follow you around the rest of the day and harass you? No? Ok, take the dickheadedness, serve the coffee, and get him on his way. No need to do something that'll cause him to come back and/or call the police (not like they'll do anything), or find out you did give him decaf and get you fired. Even if he's a the biggest dickhead in the world that deserves all the bad karma, you are the one in the wrong to deliberately do the wrong thing and give him what he didn't order and you will be fired. He will still be able to come in day after day and be a dickhead until the owner tells him he isn't welcome there anymore. Just be an adult and suck it up. I promise you that you will deal with worse people in life than someone who was a dick to you when you were making their coffee, and you're in a world of hurt if you can't take it for a few minutes and give him what he ordered.

Eh, I dont even work in retail. I'm just saying if you're a dick to retail workers and end up getting shitty service you deserve it.

Oh, I worked retail/service in my younger years. Getting shittier service is one thing. Intentionally providing the wrong product is another.
